Default Recommend a receiver for <$200

A friend of mind needs a new receiver but don't want to spend more than $200.
What would you recommend with HDMI?
Thanks.
Btw, no Onkyo as I was burned with my 606

As a sidenote I got him a Harmony One for Xmas but I can't set it up due to high traffic, their website is down, what a joke...

Sony STR-DH520

Probably your best option on a budget...

The STR-DH720 is $15 over the budget...worth a thought!

THIS Pioneer VSX-821 for $179.00 shipped and THIS Yamaha RX-V367 for $189.88 shipped are better alternatives IMO. Sorry but I'm no fan of Sony receivers.

Neither am I. Your recommendations are good for what the OP wants. I do have to snicker at the fact the guy will have a remote worth more than his AVR.

yes, you are correct...they are better alternatives. I guess I never looked into the price of those, figured they'd definitely hit above the $200 mark.

Good looking out!

Lol...yeah...well you can get the Harmony One for about $130 on sale, but I think its pretty sad that good remotes cost so much anyway. I have a Harmony One myself and to be honest I wish I would have gotten the Harmony 1100 instead, but the One was given to me as a gift so I can't complain. I'll probably still get an 1100 eventually and use the One in the bedroom. It hasn't been a priority because it bugs the hell out of me that the damn thing costs so much. Its just a remote for Pete's sake!! Lol!

Yeah, I think the price on the VSX-821 just came down recently. That's an excellent price on a very good receiver. I'm not sure if that price will last long however. Last year's Yammies have been seeing big discounts and it seems that you can always find deals on them. It appears that many retailers have an abundance of them in stock and are clearing them out for cheap.

Thanks all, I told him to get the VSX-821.

I paid $140 for his remote so yeah that's crazy it's almost the price of the Pioneer

And like I said, I can't even set it up because their servers are down

Do these receivers have the "built-in EQ" like the Yamaha receivers?

Does anyone have any new suggestions? All the previous recommendations have gone up in price a bit.
