Default Darren Aronofsky

Alright, whats the deal?

Aronofsky is one of my favorite directors and he has nothing in the pipeline.

Nothing in post production, nothing filming, nothing in pre production, not even anything development or rumored on IMDB. Nada, zip, zilch, ZERO.

This is frustrating.

The vacation has been long enough.

Anyone hear any rumors?

He's got his Noah's Ark epic filming this summer with Russell Crowe as the lead.

From Wikipedia:

Future projects

Aronofsky will direct an HBO series pilot called Hobgoblin. Announced on June 16, 2011, the series will depict a group of magicians and con artists who use their powers of deception to defeat Hitler during WWII.[71] Aronofsky will work on this project with Pulitzer Prize winning author Michael Chabon and his wife Ayelet Waldman.[71] Aronofsky will also produce an upcoming horror film, XOXO, written by Mark Heyman.[72] His next directorial film project will be his long-rumored project Noah, a re-telling of the Bible story of Noah's Ark. Thus far, the $115 million film has secured funding and distribution from New Regency and Paramount Pictures.[73] Aronofsky was rumored to have been in conversations with Christian Bale for the lead,[74] but the actor was unable to do the film for scheduling reasons.

He's the type of artist that likes to make absolutely certain his project is fully ready for production before beginning. Whatever he is working on (and trust me, he's got to be working on something), he is working hard on it.

I'm not sure I understand his point. Something about production pacing? If he is saying that The Fountain was anything less than the best film ever made in the history of forever and even longer and then some, well, he is simply wrong.

He knew exactly what he wanted out of his film and he got it. It was perfect for those of us who appreciate art.

Remember, with Aronovsky it isn't about making money. It's about making a film worthy of watching. In many eyes (not those of reviewers) it is still quite an amazing piece of cinema.

I love The Fountain.

Coincidently, I just watched Pi yesterday. Pretty good. Loved Requiem and The Wrestler. Liked Black Swan. Never saw the Fountain.

He has to work harder to get funding for his films since they are riskier for studios to take on. Its economics. Mike Bay can get a blank check because like them or hate them his films are almost gauranteed to make billions back for you. Many small time directors, like Arinovsky, cannot produce these returns.

Its like any other investment. Apple Stock is easier to buy than some small, startup company without a history of proven results.

I really like Aronofsky & I hope Noahs ark works out. But it does sound like another obsession/destruction piece for him. Or Maybe it's his chance to prove he's a real artist, considering his last very ambitious project wasn't a total success: The Fountain.

For me, The Fountain is Aronofsky's masterpiece.

However, some love it, while others hate it. It's one that you must experience for yourself.

It is his masterpiece, but the special note with the Fountain is this...

He pulled acting, true acting, talent from Hugh "I'm Wolverine" Jackson... Granted Hugh has talent, but it's the first time I watched a HJ film and saw it clear as day. "Whoa" was all I could say after it.

I look forward to seeing his upcoming projects. I feel bad he left Wolverine and RoboCop but studios are a little afraid to open up the coffers and give him full reign of production. He doesn't like studio interference and won't put up with it. He's a great guy and immensely talented director. I wait for his first Big Budget film as I trust it'll be amazing.

So, this thread has basically taught me that you suck at searching the intraweb. And i'm happy because that HBO thing sounds awesome.
