Okay, I'm about to throw my Apocalypse Now blu-ray out the window. First I had loading problems on my BDP-09FD and then figured out a way to get it to load. Then, the disc freezes right before the Sampan Massacre chapter on both versions. Amazon sent me out a new copy, but I had the same exact problems on the new copy. Is anyone else having such problems? I sure as hell hate to go back to the DVD, but I may have to.
Any help out there? |

I have the latest firmware version. I reported the loading problem to Pioneer as soon as it happened, and they said they'd look into it and issue a new firmware version if need be, but that could take months, and I doubt that would affect the freezing issue. I couldn't be more pissed.

I have a Sony BDP S550 and when I first loaded up the movie my blu ray player told me it coudln't play the disc. My player has all the firmware updates. I loaded it again and it failed again. On the third try a little panel came up that said it was looking for updates. This panel is related to the disc but I didn't see any internet activity. Either way the movie launched and now all three discs load up first try but they do always check for updates. Very odd. I have watched both versions of the film and all the extra's with no problems though. This is the first disc I ever bought that had any kind of issue loading up out of the 100 blu ray movies that I own. Lucky for me the problem seemed to fix itself. Possibly something on the disc looks for a internet connection and downloads some incredably small file that slipped by me. I don't know.

i have a ps3 and *knocks on wood* it loaded up fine, it instantly played, and never froze at any time. i've watched the film (theatrical) 5 times now, and no issues. hoping for the same for all the special features, but so far, i haven't encountered any problems.

Well, I'm at a complete loss. I've tried everything, so I can only assume it's one of two things: either a firmware update is needed (although I don't see how the freezing issue would be related to that) or both discs have the same problem, freezing at the same spot, due to some kind of issue with the "batch" that is being sent out (but, of course, that would mean other people would be complaining about the problem and I haven't seen any such complaints). The only other possibility is that it's my machine, but that doesn't make much sense because I'm not having the problem with any other blu-ray and, since the freezing occurs in the exact same spot on both discs, seems a remote possibility.
Right now it looks like I'm sending back the discs, getting my money back and re-ordering in a month or so, hoping for a miracle by then. Thanks to those who offered their advice. |

Panasonic DBP35. About the only thing odd was that somewhere along the line the initial internet connection failed. Maybe I wasn't inundated with trailers and clocks and weather reports as a result, so could have been a good thing. Movie itself played fine, no problem. (From the Full Disclosure set fwiw.)
Good luck with your next attempt. |

A common source of these types of problems is BD-Live and the dreaded Java curse. Try turning it off and see if that helps. I have never had it turned on with my Oppo BDP-83 and have never had a disc not play. Just a thought. Should be getting this disc on Monday and will be curious to see how it goes.
