This is my favorite show of all time. I own the first three seasons, but I have not yet had a chance to pick up the fourth and fifth seasons, so while I haven't really been holding off (I really want them), I'm also kind of keeping my eye on the possibility of a Blu-ray release. Keep in mind that there is supposed to be a new Friday Night Lights movies, based off of the show, coming out, so maybe we could see a Blu-ray release then?

I want Season 1 to not only come out on blu-ray but to come out with the original broadcast soundtrack. I bought the DVD set the day it came out and was absolutely crushed to find the huge differences in the soundtrack.
Apparently, I was one of the few people who actually noticed cause there was pretty much zero uproar online. But it pissed me off to no end and after one watch of the DVDs, I have never watched them again because I can't stand the shit they replaced all the music with. Not only were entire songs missing (sometimes replaced with more generic music, sometimes replaced with no music at all), but the entire ****ing score was changed from Explosions in the Sky to a pseudo-Explosions in the Sky score that would approximate the rough sounds of each of the Explosions in the Sky tracks but with wrong chords and shit melodies and none of the emotional elements that made the Explosions in the Sky soundtrack so great (the only episode that the Explosions in the Sky music was kept for was the pilot ep, not even the final episode of the season got to keep any of the music). That of course was how they were able to sell the DVDs so ridiculously cheaply at the time. Now, even the newer broadcast versions of the first season don't include the Explosions in the Sky music. And unfortunately, people weren't ripping HD versions of shows really at the time that it first aired, so all I have are some AVI files with the original music, but with really poor overall sound quality. I seriously would pay over a hundred dollars easily for the first season with the original broadcast soundtrack in blu-ray quality audio and video. It's my favourite season of any show ever, over seasons of Breaking Bad, 24, Lost, Carnivale, etc but every time I try to watch the DVDs, it just pisses the hell outta me cause I know the perfect season of a show existed and it's impossible to get now. It's a great show with or without the music, but the music elevated it as close to perfection as any season can get. Last edited by jcphoenix; 06-19-2012 at 10:23 PM. |

Hmm, I didn't know that. Sounds like a shame - that said, the only ones I've seen are 720p digital versions which I believe are from iTunes. Can't say whether it had the original music or not.
Would definitely buy a BD release of this, and they could do it considering HD versions of it exist. I'm guessing it wouldn't be worth it for the studio though. |
