Default "New" blu-rays not shrink wrapped?

I'm fairly sure I just dealt with a crooked seller but I recently ordered a french blu-ray of MR 73 and it arrived without shrinkwrap. I contacted the seller and they responded with a lengthy explanation saying many european countries don't always sell new titles shrinkwrapped. I'm fairly sure they are just being lazy concerning lying about selling used items as new but I was wondering if anyone had any first hand experience with these supposedly new and unshrinkwrapped blu-rays before I file a complaint with amazon.

Chip75 mentions a similar problem here in the first line of his post.https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=188141

Thanks. I still think this seller is being lazy about selling used goods though. I only have 50 something imports from Europe but all of them came factory sealed.

Not long ago a lot of shops used to open up brand new stock, take the discs out and put them in a draw so they could put the cases on the shelf, personally the second the seal is broken I consider it second hand but I am sure they wouldn't agree and thankfully now a lot of places put the stock in plastic security boxes so what you buy if brand new and sealed but if the person you bought from got their stock from somewhere that did what I described then technically it's brand new but I wouldn't be happy either.

You could well be right about the seller, proving it is another thing, certainly most thing's you order will come sealed but like other's have stated this isn't always the case...not that I agree with it.

Once it's out of the shrinkwrap it's no longer 'New' in my eyes either. I've spoken to a few people in stores that do remove discs and they don't like it either.

Rasimov some times the seller just wants to appeal to the buyers who don't buy 2nd hand BD's and you often see 'inspected to make sure disc is working' as an excuse (it's definitely 2nd hand after that!).

If the case is completely scuff free (which it may not be if it's been put on a shelf) and there are no finger prints inside on the plastic or leaflet if there is one, it maybe new but I can think of only a few release in the UK (I think a Harry Potter Steelbook came unsealed last year) that didn't come shrinkwrapped.

The Blu-ray cigarband should be mandatory on all releases if you ask me!

They have the security tab inside, is that fitted after manufacturing before it's sent to stores?

If Amazon directly send you a unsealed BD use their service and ask for a replacement. If you can print a label it won't cost you a penny (you'll get your postage refunded if you don't have a printer) to send it back.

Those security tabs on US digbooks are on the paper slip on the back, and if you want to remove them, you either rip or cause some other damage to the paper. It usually leaves the metal strip behind. That is one thing I hate about the US releases along with the eco cases

I have got the Picnic At Hanging Rock blu off Amazon which wasn't sealed, and I have seen it unsealed in HMV. This is the Second Sight release

i'm from canada so i would have had to pre pay the return shipping and wait till they got it for a refund on that. they offered me 10% off so i took it. movie played fine and there was no scrachs so it wasn't worth returning.

the seceirty thing i was talking about wasn't the palstic things with metal strips they put in the case that make alarms go off becuase i have got those on stuff shipping from hmv uk i think most countries use them. what i was talking about was them stupid stickers that movie companys put on the top of the cases never seen one on anything bought from uk germany france or aussy but there on 99% of movies sold in us and canada. alway a pain to get them off becuase they shred as ur pulling them into peices.

these are the ones.

http://www.boxseals.com/Security-Dev...SDE-114SDE.htm

some put on the top but some are even worse and put them on all 3 sides of the cases pain in the ass getting them off.

Are those the ones when you pull them off, they leave something on the item, for instance on some electrical items they have stickers, and when you pull them off, it leaves "Warranty Void" messages behind?

By "over there" if you are referring to Australia, all movies are sealed by the distributors here. If you buy or receive a film that is unseal, then the retailer opened it.

nah there just sticker that seal the cases shut. they sopsouely are there to make it harder for people to open in store and just swipe the discs.

i got 1 from jbhifi that wasn't sealed.

also on devoteddvd there site says this

All Items are received brand new from their respective supplier (unless advertised as second hand), unfortunately not all suppliers seal there products due to this some items may arrive without any shrink warp around the DVD. If receiving an unsealed item is a problem please make sure you make a note in the order comments and we shall notify you if the item is unsealed upon shipment.

What was the title? because unless it was from a very small distributor (even then it's unlikely), then it would have been sealed when JB hi fi received the stock. Everything from the major studio's/distributors always comes factory sealed, WB, Fox, Universal, Paramount, Sony, Disney etc. Out of my entire collection, which is made up of more than 80% of Australian versions, not 1 was purchased unsealed.

Jb would have removed the seal, because T2 definitely would have come sealed from the distributor, which is Universal here. I've purchased 2 copies of the barebones 2008 T2 release (I sold the 1st copy when the Skynet edition come out, and then repurchased it when I found out that it was the better version), and I've also bought 2 copies of the Skynet edition (because the 1st copy I bought was scratched but I didn't return it for an exchange), all 4 were factory sealed when I purchased them.
