Panasonic or LG?

So I'm thinking to finally get my first 3D tv, I've been looking all over, I hear LG makes great 3d tvs, I hear Panasonic makes great ones aswell. I was hoping I could please get some feedback... My budget would be under $1k. I want this tv obviously have great 3D viewing but also look great in 2d.

Seems affordable, Nice size at great price.
Does anyone know much about this 3d tv/have experience with it? Pros, Cons etc. or know of any other good Panasonic or LG ones you can reccomend? I would very much appreciate it.

I've looked at different kind of 3d tvs for a couple of months before choosing an LG cinema 3d. The 3d is simply amazing better than a theatre. LG is the company for 3d. imo

I have a 47" LG passive 3d and a 55" Panasonic passive 3d which would be similar or equivalent to any models you'd be looking at in that price range.

For picture quality, both are very close and quite frankly, I don't feel like there's much difference between any of the major name brands in the under $1000 price range. The one thing I would look for though is the the use of anti-reflective coating on the screen area. A lot of newer models seem to aim for a more mirrored screen surface when the TV is off (less anti-reflective coating) and this leads to light from other sources (windows, lamps, etc) reflecting on the screen if you're not watching in the dark. My Panasonic definitely has more of an issue with this than the LG but that's just between the TV's I own. I've seen some of the newer LG models also have some more reflective screens lately.

As far as other things go:

Build quality: panasonic wins easily as it feels much sturdier. In LG's defense, they're often going after a more stylish and thinner design which will definitely make the TV feel more flimsy.
Remote: Just a note that typical LG tvs now only come with their "magic" remote which is like a Wii controller. I hate that remote with a passion. My LG was from a year ago and luckily it included both a standard and magic remote. However, not a big issue if you use a universal remote or your cable/satelitte remote typically.

@Blu_gun: I would preferre my things to be sturdy, So knowing Panasonic is sturdier is swaying me that way. As for the reflecting, my living room is usually dark when I'm watching things so I'm not worried about that.

Question, does your Panasonic have the 2D to 3D conversion? And if so how is that, does it work pretty well? The Panasonic VIERA TC-L47ET5 47-Inch I'm looking at has that feature and it has me intrigued. And if I may ask, which Panasonic model do you own?

Vizio and Panasonic both use LG passive screens.

I have the TC-L55ET5 so basically same class as what you're looking at. Haven't tried the 2D to 3D on it yet. I played with that feature on the LG when I first got that and found it interesting but had I remember getting more eye fatigue using it than usual for me. Picture quality did suffer a bit due to whatever interpolation was being used to create the image. It gave images some light 3D perspective but no serious popouts if that's what you're looking for.

I have an LG 3D Smart TV.

Turned on the K pop app and watched a 3D video that was better than anything ive seen in theatres.

Highly reccomend LG. When it comes to 3D that is what they are known for doing the best from everything I've heard.

If you are buying for 3D I'd go for the LG, and I'd definitely buy a smart tv one as well.

Yeah I wasnt expecting the 2D to 3D conversion to pop out big, but thought would be pretty cool feature to have, tyvm for all your help Blu_gun. I'll be looking around to see some in person, but I'm leaning more toward Panasonic.


@lghaze42: yeah I hear Active are best, but those are out of my price range sadly. And the glasses arent cheap either.
