Default Lethal Weapon 2

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/lethalweapon2.html

Ok, this is another one that's going in my collection. I love all the Lethal Weapons--Mel's mullet and all! Looks like yet another good Blu-ray transfer...this is awesome.

HDDVD (with being first out with Lethal Weapon 2): "Diplomatic Immunity!"

Blu-ray (as played by Murtaugh and having had a slower and bumpy start): [insert neck roll here] *shoots HDDVD between the eyes*

Ahh yeah, I said it!

Warner really deserves kudos for doing right by both formats all the way.

That being said, if you're into BD already or are going to be...seeing these discs come out like this really just boil things down to the barest essentials:

You buy HD-DVD if you just can't live a little while without Universal Studios, because everything else is coming to BD anyways, and in good-great form.

That and if your impatient and can't wait for a release date on the other studio's titles (Last Samurai-Unforgiven) for example, or if you want the Dolby TruHD 5.1 soundtrack offered on some WB titles not showing up on BD, ie: Training day, Constantine*, TROY* (vertict still out on those last* two) But warner has really shown they are the BEST studio out there.

Blu Disc just needs some exclusive content now to make it the clear cut advantage now.

Agreed on the Universal discs, obviously, but I think that's going to change come about 2nd quarter of 07 thereabouts.

What's the lead time here between HD-DVD discs and their BD counterparts. 4-8 weeks max?

I can wait.

Ironic to see you making some of these audio points vs. what you wrote in our very own Training Day thread here a while back. It's like a different person writing some of this now.

You've flip-flopped on some things.

I'm all for uncompressed PCM myself, above all else.

Agreed, they deserve credit for both formats.

I disagree as I doubt we will ever see Universal work with Sony. I feel the opposite as more companies will start releasing movies on HD-DVD, which has proven to be the superior format when it comes to video quality. Blu-Ray has the disc space (if they can actually get them working) and the studio support, but that is it. Except for WB's discs and Underworld Evolution, I have not seen one BR movie that looked better than its DVD counterpart.

Maybe this will change when the Sony and Pioneer players come out next month, but until then, HD-DVD wins hands down. Regardless, I doubt we will see either format declare a complete victory for at least 3 years.

I think you're living in dream world.

I think it will be a lot sooner than that IF the BDA delivers on ALL the goods starting in 4th quarter of this year, like indicators are pointing to.

Lets see if this fits a certain person

In Internet terminology, a troll is often someone who comes into an established community such as an online discussion forum, and posts inflammatory, rude, repetitive or offensive messages designed intentionally to annoy or antagonize the existing members or disrupt the flow of discussion, Often, trolls assume multiple aliases, or sock puppets.

No longer a problem.

Anyways, back on topic: I hope all 4 Lethal Weapon movies come out here eventually. I'd probably wait to get them all in box set or something.

Question Lethal Weapon 2 question

I watched the two Lethal Weapon movies this week (BOGO purchases) and during the second one I noticed a lot of what I think was over-aggressive edge enhancement.

Basically any straight line - particularly in the background of a shot would have jaggies around it. I have only noticed this in maybe one other title (can't remember at the moment) and I think it was much worse in Lethal Weapon 2 than any other Blu-ray.

However - reading through online reviews of the film nobody else seemed to mention it. Am I imagining it or did anybody else notice this?

ive read about those 2 movies being poor quality. im holing off on them, willing to bet they will remaster them and release them with 3 and 4 when they come out. I love the movies but am pissed about having to buy a new copy of full metal jacket because the double dipped on it already and the remastered copy comes out Tuesday.

i personally thought BOTH the lethal weapons were fantastic...the best 'old movie' transfers i have seen on blu ray...of course there will be slight problems, but the movies for the most part looked like they had been made in the last 5 years (except for the hair) as opposed to the last 15 years. amazing blus IMO. i think a lot of people say they suck without even watching them becasue they just assume because they are old and mpeg-2 transfers. didn't matter for these.

I'm waiting until they remaster and release the Director's Cut versions. I have those on DVD and that will be fine for me (for now!)

We've discussed this issue a few times in the forum (Search Lethal Weapon ), my view on that is that

So maybe they were 1080i x 1440 masters that got weaved AND the horizontal res shown in 1920 shows the original lower pixel structure and that's why people think they're bobbed.
