Default You'll always have a Blu-Ray player because....

In a period of uncertainty we live in of who will win the format war the question of "will i get stuck with these flicks if my side fails" has come up. And in reading some opinions from other forums online, I saw an interesting reply to a thread about the PS3 and BR movies. Alot of people fear early adoption because, lets face it...If say Toshiba where to pull out right now...what would we be left with in HDDDVD? But I got to thinking, If Blu-Ray "failed" per say..(don't see it happening) well, those movies would still play in ps3...and ps3 would go on, regardless of the movie industries ideas. If you're Blu-Ray player breaks, you can always buy a ps3 to replace it...and those should be around about 7-10 years. So, that has got to be an easy decision & probably one reason why More studio's back Blu-Ray over HDDVD. I also think when consumers are trying to rationalize which way to go, this will play a part in many peoples decision. That and the obvious fact that they garner a majority of CE industry & movie studio support.

There are just too many ups to Blu-Ray...that it most likely can not fail.
The flip side is that HDDVD could fold quite easily, Yes...Toshiba & M$ have invested alot of money in this, but are they really getting an ROIC off of this? If most who begin with HD discs start via PS3, it could leave them scrambling to try and figure out what to do. Also making the 360 Ad-on just that, and "Ad-on" creates choice. A choice we are relying on joe-six-pack to make when he's already satisfied with DVD. But if the device (PS3) already does it, and he's already paid for it anyways...well then we have a much bigger differance here.

However this is all concidering ps3 will be a huge success. Most said ps2 wouldn't be able to overcome Sega...wow they blew them out of the water in like the first 8 months. And Sega had like a 2 yr head start.
