Default Martin Scorsese blus

I was planning on picking up all of his films that are on blu ray, and the general consensus is that Gangs of new york looks bad? Is that the only one of his films that looks bad on blu? Any other complaints?

Goodfellas - Not the best but good
Casino - Amazing!, probably the best looking Scorsese movie on Blu-ray.
The Departed - Pretty good as well.

I thought GONY looked fine on Blu. Some people complained that the grain had been digitally removed leaving it looking unnaturally "clean", but it didn't bother me at all.

The only thing that surprised me about the Casino BD was that there were a fair number of white speckles on the print used for the transfer - unexpectedly so for a mid-90's film. It does look great however.

Raging Bull is due in February and Taxi Driver is supposed to be coming out sometime in 2009. I hope Sony will get around to The Age Of Innocence soon as well - that should look stunning on Blu-ray.

I was rather surprised by the occasional speckle here and there as well. It isn't anything that hurts the quality too much as this is probably the best all-around looking Scorsese blu, but it was still a little annoying.

IF your copy looks a bit grainy, it might be ("Might") because of the Period for when it was set in perhaps? I forget the exact years, but if it's the early 1900's or whatever, then he prob. wanted it to have that Old look to it, and not be all Glossy and pretty. More gritty. Just a thought.

Gotta love Scorsese. I already have most of his flicks on SD, so won't upgrade anytime soon. Its sad if Gangs has a poor transfer tho.

I will admit that Gangs of New York could have looked better, especially coming from Disney, but I bought it simply for the fact that it is on one disc. I hated watching it on DVD because you have to switch discs in the middle of the movie. Since the blu ray is one disc, I think it is worth the purchase just for that. Also, I agree with some that Casino is his best looking Blu ray.

I think I just have the aviator and casino, both of which look fantastic, and I love both of those movies anyway. Departed is on my radar.

I own everything Scorsese has ever made, including the shorts thanks to a French DVD release. He's my favourite filmmaker, and the one who got me interested in film seriously when I was fifteen years old. I've been picking up the Blu-rays as and when they've become available in the UK (and imported the US remastered GoNY, and the French Aviator steelbook).

I would absolutely love to see After Hours make it to Blu-ray. Its possibly his most commonly forgotten film, and is such a visually rich film that it'd be a sin not to see that film get a BD release. Bringing Out The Dead is another that I'd like to see be given the treatment it deserves (the existing DVD doesn't even have an audio commentary!).

It looks like Warner is re-releasing the existing Scorsese Collection in a cheaper Triple Pack package:

They're doing the same with the Oliver Stone collection too
