Post The Nightmare Before Christmas: Halloween or Christmas Classic?

My friends and I debate this every year, with no resolve. I would like to see what everyone here thinks.

I personally believe this to be more of a Christmas movie.

Reasons why:

1.) It happens during Christmas.

2.) Jack is changed by the spirit of Christmas.

3.) Christmas is in the title.

Oops! I meant to say Halloween instead of Christmas as most of the movie and the main characters are all Halloween characters and most of the movie takes place in Halloween land. Either way is cool though as it does feature Christmas enough to go both ways. At my place of work we use to have a "Christmas party" then they started calling it a "holiday party," now it's an "end of the year party." What a world! It will always be a Christmas party to me.

I would almost say a tad bit more Christmas, as the story itself seems to be happening as Xmas is upon us and while the denizens of Halloween are lacking a reason to celebrate, but imo it can fit both bills easily

its a christmas movie. it takes place in a halloween setting but the film is about the spirit of christmas. the plot has nothing to do with the actual holiday of halloween.

Compromise and say Thanksgiving.

But really, it's a Christmas movie. You can't really celebrate Halloween with the spirit of Christmas, there's nothing haunting about pine trees, lights, and Santa.

Both.

That's why I watch it in November, the month between Halloween and Christmas. Makes some sense if you think about it.

It's more of a Halloween film to me seeing as most of the locations and characters are in and from Halloweentown.

Watch it on Thanksgiving, right in between Halloween and Christmas...problem solved!

But seriously, it's absolutely a Christmas movie after about the first 5 minutes (This is Halloween opening scene)

I suppose it is both, but I always watch it on October 30. I have too many other Christmas movies to watch around the end of December.

For the last 15 years or so, this is the movie I watch on every Halloween night, mainly because it's the perfect "holiday hand-off" movie to ease out of spooky October frights into the good cheer of Thanksgiving and Christmas. The only two years I haven't watched it on Halloween were the two years when it was re-issued to theaters in 3D.

It's mainly a Christmas movie, but I always watch it in November, between Halloween and Christmas.

Christmas is the event in danger, that makes it a Christmas film.

It's definitely both. Visually, it's absolutely a Halloween film. Morally, it's more a Christmas film.

So, does that make "Black Christmas" visually a Christmas film but morally a Halloween film?
