USA When do you say, "Enough is enough!"

I think I'm at that point.

I love movies and though I'm not as hard core as some, I would consider myself a videophile.

At first, I was buying movies to convert my DVD collection to BD. So I did, and sold off my DVD's one by one as I replaced them.

Then, it was about buying BD movies because I just moved and didn't have satellite nor internet hooked up in the new house, so I watched BD to pass the time.

Now that I have Netflix streaming, it has become more about just collecting BD's just for the sake of collecting. I scroll through Amazon and this website just to see what's on sale. And when I do score, it just ends up piled with the rest of my collection -- some still shrink-wrapped, sitting unopened. Some were watched once and haven't been touched in over a year. It's just "nice to have" kinda thing.

Well, I've amassed together close to 200 Blu ray movies and you know what? Enough is enough.

I've been going through the list and hand picking maybe 25-30 movies to keep that I consider 'classics' or have some sentimental value to me (where I can actually watch the movie over and over again) and I'm dumping the rest on eBay. It's been hard because I have to look at every single one and asking myself, "Should I keep this? Why?!"

I've been trying to resist placing movies in my Amazon queue in hopes that it would go on sale soon. I'm still waiting for some DVD's to be released in the BD equivalent so I'm still holding out on those (like Sidney Poitier movies).

This madness of "gotta have it" mentality has got to stop. Seriously. I blame my mother for starting me on this path when she started with those damn Disney VHS collection movies when I was a kid.

Yup, I got owned by marketing. Sheesh!

Anyway, that's my rant.

To be honest, there's like 30-40 movies outside of my wishlist that haven't been released on Blu yet that I want to grab. When I obtain those... I'll stop for a while, not counting new releases.

I reached my limit as well. Some movies I probably haven't watched in more than two years. From now on, it's all about

Every day I say, "enough is enough." I could shrink my collection to under 20 films that I will watch more than once. I put them on Craigslist once and some guy was going to drive 100 miles and give me 6 grand cash but I changed my mind.

I keep selling or trading on here the movies I know I will never watch more than once and keep the rest. My list is constantly growing but at a slow and steady rate. Think I only have about 132 discs now and will probably let 20 or 30 more go which will give me my "happy collection" that can slowly build as I find movies that really interest me.

I'm at that point. I' ve bought most of the movies I want that are currently out there, now it's buying new movies as they are released. Not wanting to pay full price I find myself in mostly in waiting mode. There are probably about a dozen movies that I have my sights on, but I don't see many newer unreleased movies I'm interested in. I'm sure The Hobbit will be one of them.

Simple.
Never.

I have 100 years of movies to catch on + the contemporary movies that are being released.
There still hundreds of stuff I haven't seen, and hundreds waiting to be released.
It never ends.

What happens when discs are eventually phased out? It will happen.

at that time about 1200 Blu-rays. That's 5 bucks a Blu-ray which includes sealed Criterions, sealed Twilight Times, OOPs, sealed boxsets like Twilight Zone and BSG. He was going to re-sell them and said he was thinking about opening a store

I break it down for my wife like this.

I don't drink, or smoke, or hunt, or fish. I don't ski, snowboard, or anything else that could cost a lot of money. My hobby is loving to collect movies in the best possible format, and sharing them with my kids. Ok, so maybe I am a little addicted.

I work hard as a landscaper and own my own business...

Damnit let me have my BluRay's
