United Kingdom Deerskin (2019) - Quentin Dupieux, Jean Dujardin

Picturehouse Entertainment will belatedly release Dupieux's second-to-last film (Mandibles has already played festivals), Deerskin (Le Daim) on Blu-ray.

It's worth noting it's been two years since the French cinema release, a year since the US release and I wouldn't be surprised if this comes out almost a year after the Australian Blu-ray!

Quote:
Georges (Jean Dujardin), is a man who has one ambition - to possess the finest jacket in the world at the expense of all others.

With the relationship with his wife in tatters, Georges retreats to a remote town where he purchases the deerskin jacket of his dreams. Along with the killer style couture he has just acquired, he also gets hold of an old video camera. This ignites a new interest as he moves from couture to auteur. Aided by aspiring editor Denise (Adèle Haenel), he sets out to create his masterwork. However, his ever closer relationship with his deerskin jacket starts to take him down a darker path that he continues to document on his camera and which Denise continues to sew together into a film.

Laugh out loud funny and gloriously unexpected, the odyssey on which Georges has embarked leaves him guilty of many things, not least an excess of killer style....

The look is so deliberately low-def I'm not sure it'll benefit from blu unless they conjure up a good extras package.

Altitude are releasing Mandibles, Dupieux's most recent film, to less than 25 venues on 17th September, and on digital 20th September. Being Altitude, this means it will likely be DVD only, and ironically Picturehouse will likely refuse to screen it, despite distributing Deerskin.

It’d be a shame if Mandibles got DVD only, I thought it was better than Deerskin.

It is such a shame that Rialto Distribution has the rights in Australia to Mandibles because there is no hope of a physical media release. Not even a DVD.

Rialto appear to have thrown in the towel so to speak when it comes to physical media. I noticed that Mandibles & Summer of 85, after some festival screenings earlier in the year, are going straight to streaming on Fetch.

I'll settle for a DVD UK release if Magnolia Pictures (who own the US rights) fail to release the film on Blu Ray or DVD. Magnolia are releasing less on Blu Ray and sometimes passing on DVD releases.

I really don't know why companies can't press a small quantity of each title - even if it is just a DVD. I'm really disappointed in the growing list on straight to streaming not just in Australia but also the UK & US.

Any idea which is the better release of Deerskin on Blu-ray, Australian or UK?
