Fixed Frame Screen Installation on Wood Paneling. - Blu-ray Forum

An issue my family and I have run into regarding the installation for a fixed frame screen is that the wall we will be hanging the screen is wood paneling. Behind the wood paneling is simply a concrete wall. I'm not sure how much space there is between the concrete wall and the wood paneling, but it may be 6 inches or a little more. Anyways, the main obstacle we are experiencing is the fact that we just had B-Dry come in and do some work in our basement along that wall. I don't know exactly what type of work, but we are just concerned if we drill holes that it will void the warranty. Now I'm just wondering if it would be possible to mount the 100in fixed frame screen by simply hanging it on the wood paneling without drilling into the concrete.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If there is a 6" gap from the paneling to the concrete there has to be some kind of frame work the paneling is attached to. More than likely there is a wood frame. Try and locate the framework.

I would not recommend hanging the screen from just the paneling ! Paneling is only maybe a 1/4" thick and that's being generous.

Wood paneling must be attached to something, most likely 2x4 framing. Buy a stud finder that works through paneling and find the studs, then mount your screen into them. I would not drill into the cinder blocks/concrete, as it may provide a path for moisture to get into your basement (though good waterproofing is done on the exterior, not the interior walls). If you have to, you can mount the screen to directly to the paneling as long as you use plenty of fasteners to spread the weight. Fixed frame screens do not weight that much, and would not pose a problem if mounted properly to the paneling.
