Thumbs up Lionsgate's blu-ray wave 2! with DTS HD!

From thedigitalbits.com:

Also today, Lionsgate has officially announced their second wave of Blu-ray Disc titles for 8/22 (SRP $29.99 each). Finally, The Devil's Rejects (the 109-minute unrated version) will include audio commentary with director Rob Zombie, audio commentary with actors Sid Haig, Bill Moseley and Sheri Moon Zombie, and deleted scenes. All will feature 1080p video with audio in "DTS HD High Resolution ES" and "5.1 Dolby Digital Surround EX."

Stargate would be awesome. As for the rest, TDR was okay, but not worth buying again. Ho1KC would be awesome though.

Stargate and Devil's Rejects are worth buying...

Devil's Rejects was surprisingly good....especially since I hate horror flicks...they are usually redundant....but this was good...

I love Stargate and my wife loves Stir Of Echoes. Will buy both if the reviews are good. Are these the first titles to include DTS HD? I don't believe any of the HD DVD discs out now have it. Very cool.

Yes, these are the first in DTS HD. Hopefully sony learns something from them and starts including it on their discs.

Better audio is great and I am eager to hear it but I'm much more concerned with picture quality. These discs need to look great as well.

I agree but I don't think we'll see any really good picture quality from blu-ray until the problems with dual-layer discs are solved.

Actually, ALL of the first HD DVDs from Paramount will have DTS 5.1 (I don't think it's DTS HD, though). Titles include Tomb Raider, Braveheart, Aeon Flux, among others.
But I won't be racing out to get any HD DVDs or BluRays until they get their act together technically.

nope dts hd is going to be a new audio format that requires a reciever that has an hdmi input on it, while most of todays recievers can decode regular dts, and I'm not sure but I thought dts was a seperate channel for each speaker and a seperate one for the sub. e.g. 6.0

The Pioneer Elite BDP-HD1, according to Pioneer's Andy Parsons, should have DTS HD and "Dolby Lossless".
The Sony BDP-S1 has: DTS HD (DTS audio stream only), Dolby True HD (Dolby Digital audio stream only) and Dolby Digital Plus (Dolby Digital audio stream only)

so as i understand it, stream only means it can send it to a receiver that is capable, then decode?

or no?

Total Recall in DTS-HD and 1080p gives me a smile - I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Great news on the DTS-HD for sure.

I fear it might mean that the player will take the HD stream, strip out the core non-HD (traditional) track, and decode THAT instead. So basically no advantage whatsoever.

Hope I am misinterpreting that.

Note that if these do not say DTS-HD Master Audio, it is NOT the lossless codec that is comparable to DolbyTruHD. It is a lossy codec that, from what I've heard, is not any different from run of the mill DTS.

Wonderful more crap audio. People wonder why the audio industry is having a hard time. Well lets see the last good ie well supported audio format was CD thats been out for what 20 years now? I think it might be time to uprade to something a little better. One of my greatest hopes was that these new dvds would sound wonderful and look amazing though it looks like the ce industry is making sure that doesn't happen but not including much support for next gen audio formats and discs not even containing such formats.

To my knowledge, not one studio has talked about using DTS-HD Master Audio yet. It's a larger file than DolbyTruHD because it uses a DTS core, whereas DolbyTruHD is an entirely separate codec.

Am I right in thinking that DolbyTrueHD is a 2-channel format for good?
