Criterion Bottle Rocket (1996)

Ordered Bottle Rocket on Blu-ray during the infamous Amazon B2G1 free sale that was open to everything a few months ago. It's due out December 4 and I just received an email from Amazon stating:

"We're still trying to obtain the following item[s] you ordered on September 21 2008 19:06 PDT (Order# 105-8931784-x).

Owen Wilson (Actor), et al "Bottle Rocket (Blu-ray) - Criterion
Collection [Blu-ray]"

Still want it? We'll keep on trying. To keep your order for this item open, please click the link below. Otherwise, we'll cancel your order on December 04 2008, if we haven't located it by then."

Anyone heard if there is a delay?

Sounds like a computer generated response to an item ordered that hasn't been released yet... just hold on to that order. Criterion has NOT delayed that title. you can check at www.criterion.com although they don't list the release dates on main pages if you click it as if to buy it... it will give the release date. Just FYI.

Your order is fine.

It HAS been delayed.. by a week. Instead of the 18th it's coming on the 25th.

Are there any packaging shots for the new Criterion Blu's? Will they be in digipaks or standard blu-ray cases?

I still would have prefered if Criterion had started again at #1, unless they are certain (and I know they cannot be) they could release each one again on blu-ray.

I hope Criterion will continue its tradition of fantastic packaging. I'd assume that most releases will be in standard blu-ray cases, but things like Dazed and Confuzed and Fear and Loathing Las Vegas had really cool, special boxes, booklets and slipcovers on DVD. My guess is that these special types of releases just get shrunken down to blu-ray proportions when they are ported over.

Default Delayed Again?

Under the Coming Soon link on The Criterion website, it now says December next to the Bottle Rocket Blu-Ray... It says January next to The Last Emperor.

They are moving to a new warehouse, which may have something to do with it.

I contacted customer service for a definitive answer and I'll update everyone when I hear from them.

UPDATE: Definitely Delayed

We were aware for some time that the street date for our upcoming Blu-ray releases would have to change because of delays at the pressing plant, but until very recently it was unclear precisely how long the delay would be.

We apologize for the short notice and inconvenience, however we wanted to wait to announce the change in release dates until we knew for certain what the new date would be.

Again, I am very sorry to hear that this has been a great inconvenience to you. Please feel free to write in again if you have other concerns or questions.

Sincerely,

Jon Mulvaney

Well this works out for me because I'm so broke with all the fall releases.

I received a follow-on email the other day indicating that the new release date is late December and I should receive it shortly after the new year.

By the way, I ordered two copies, so if anyone is looking for one and wants to trade... see my trade list.

Why would you order two copies?

Picked another one up during the Amazon.com B2G1 free sale they held a few months back that included everything. Figured I'd sell/trade one of the copies as I couldn't find anything else I was interested in.

Default Just Got Mine!!!

What a surprise today when I got home. I didn't think this was coming for two more weeks. Although the packaging is the weak part, the audio and video is superb. I didn't expect anything less from Criterion.

There are pictures of the Criterion blu-rays over in the other thread about the Criterion releases. Check 'em out! Also, I would go check out DVDBeaver's site for the "Bottle Rocket" comparison they did.

I'm not a fan of many of the Criterion "cardboard" cases. Sad to see it's the same with this release...

I just picked up 3 of the 4 initial Criterion Blu-rays.It's my humble opinion that they've done a bang-up job and that the format is going to be done justice by them...
