a intersting news about my sony dvd player - Blu-ray Forum

i got a dvd from with avatar bluray from uk. it was coded region 2.yet it played in the dvd player made in asia.today i played the dark knight rises dvd that i got with the bluray.the disc was coded region 1 from us.still it played in the dvd player

have u guys know it before or this is new or what since all dvd plays in their respective region codes

In DVD players, the region coding is a very simple software which can easily be bypassed. Sometimes it's out of the box (even though for legal reasons, a region code is mentioned on the package), sometimes a one-time code has to be entered.

Old news buddy. 99% dvd pplayers today are region free irrespective of what the box says. Its blu ray players which are the trouble.

With any luck, the PS4 will be region free. I think IGN confirmed this when they covered E3 a few days ago.

^They probably mean that it will be region-free for games, same as for the PS3.

Yup. Checked other sites and it's still locked for blu-rays.
