This is one of my very favorites, and is my most wished for blu-ray at the moment, anyone knows who owns the rights? If only Criterion could release it!

This thread could be an indicator as to why there is no news about it's release yet! It's one of my favorite movies too, but obviously where in the minority here considering how long this thread has been around and how inactive it has been. Thunderheart and The Ghost and The Darkness are two movies I'd scoop up right away if they got released on blu.

And while I too love this film I have a feeling it won't be released in the foreseeable future

It's a great film but alas ........ I think it hits too close to home for too many people

Just another Val Kilmer title stuck in limbo. This film is a TriStar (Sony) production, while The Saint and The Ghost and the Darkness reside with Paramount.

We've had three major Val Kilmer titles finally get released here in the States on Blu-ray between 2021 and 2022: The Saint, The Ghost and the Darkness, and Top Secret!. And Real Genius will see a new 4K/Blu-ray release from Sony this September (the initial release was a "Sony Choice" manufactured on demand disc). Seems like now would be a good time--especially with this year being the 30th anniversary--for Sony/TriStar to release Thunderheart with this current Val Kilmer catalog trend.

Top Gun Maverick might be a factor as well. Always up for more Kilmer.

This just popped up in the blu ray system as getting a US release on May 21st. I'm not sure how accurate that is yet though.
