Default Netflix on PS3 only outputs stereo

Not sure if this is the proper forum for this, but has anyone had any issues with their PS3 only outputting stereo when playing movies and TV shows streamed through Netflix? I just recently replaced my launch 60gb, because I started to have overheating issues, with a 320gb slim and now I'm only getting stereo output to my Onkyo TX-SR605. I've set everything to output Linear PCM (at least I think I changed it everywhere, the settings on PS3 are all over the place), because I think I read online that apps aren't able to bitstream. Any help would be appreciated.

I believe that if it is a slim it can bitstream DTS-HD (even in 3D movies) but not Dolby TrueHD or DD+, just regular DD. However, if its in DD+ (from Netflix for example) the output is just DD or PCM, but it should be in 5.1 anyways (if the streaming content is in 5.1 of course). The best to do, I think, is to go to the Audio Output settings and just choose automatic. The PS3 will detect which formats (which the PS3 supports) the receiver supports. Also keep in mind that not all content on Netflix has 5.1 DD+. Some content is just stereo. But in short, the PS3 should be able to output surround from streaming services such as Netflix and Vudu (the one I use outputs 5.1 DD+ from Vudu in 5.1 PCM, and DD from Netflix when the content is DD+; I also have an Onkyo receiver btw). Also, are you using an HDMI from the PS3 to the receiver?

All the settings seem to be correct. I set the audio output to automatic and verified DD+ got set, but still get stereo output.

Check that you are using an HDMI from the PS3 to the receiver. I did a little investigation and the PS3 slim can output DD+ and Dolby TrueHD. It also supports DD, DTS, DTS-HD HR, DTS-HD MA, and pretty much any PCM. Umm.. Try playing Harper's Island in Netflix. I watched it and all episodes have 5.1 DD+. The PS3 should output either 5.1 DD, or 5.1 PCM for Netflix. for some reason it does not bitstream for Netflix; for for other apps it does. If it does not go to Audio Settings, select HDMI, then Manual, then check the boxes for Dolby TrueHD, DD+, DD, DTS, DTS-HD HR, DTS-HD MA, and all the PCM's.

Looks like I needed to enable 'Audio Multi-Ouput'. I don't really understand what it's meant to do.
