Question Multiple Movie BD Disc Quality

Do Blu-Ray Disc 'collections' of multiple movies in one disc have lower quality that BDs with one movie?

It seems that BD collections are usually of movies from the early 2000s and prior time. I know that these films are remastered, but i'm wondering if there was a disadvantage to having multiple movies in one disc in quality.

lack of extras is my limited experience-What is wrong with one movie on one layer, another movie on the second. I believe the same titles can be bought as individual titles from other teritories

Depends solely on the encode in question. Examples-
If two encodes takes up 25GB of space each, and you press both on a BD-50, there is theoretically no difference between the dual feature and standalone releases, since they're not further compressed to fit.

Another example would be some of the Hellraiser sequels. They released Hellraiser Bloodline as a stand alone release on a 25GB disc. Then they released Hellraiser Bloodline and Hellraiser Inferno as a dual feature, again on a 25GB disc. Unless the standalone release of Bloodline was only 12,5GB big (which would make no sense), it would have to be further compressed to make room for the other movie on the same BD-25, making it possible for more compression artifacts and noise to appear. In that case (unless the encode was very small to begin with), it would make more sense to buy the separate release. Lower bitrates does not necessarily mean that you would notice a big difference, if any at all, though. It all depends.

Well Thanks for the detailed explanation Prim. Unfortunately the technical data that you mentioned isn't listed when you buy the actual Bluray movie collection in one disc. But I understand now that in theory its better to buy the separate release. Another thing to consider is the lack of extras, as Stratford mentioned, if your into watching the extras.
