Default Rank the films of Zack Snyder

The ones I've seen...
  1. Watchmen - 8.5 (would've been a 10.0 if not for Malin Akerman)
  2. Dawn of the Dead - 8.0 (example of a remake that worked well)
  3. 300 - 8.0 (example of style over substance that worked well)
  4. Man of Steel - 6.0 (first Snyder film I actively disliked)

Never seen...
  • Legend of the Guardians
  • Sucker Punch

Watchmen - 3.5/5
Man of Steel - 3/5
300 - 2.5/5

Never seen:
Sucker Punch
Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole

Also, in my top two Snyder films, you won't find his name in the writing credits...

Legend of the Guardians was insane. I remember not being sure how to feel about it. It was so quintessentially Zack Snydery yet I felt like I was so clearly not the target audience. I'd rank it above Man of Steel based on your list (which seems pretty fair). Sucker Punch, for me, goes right below that. It seems like such a great girl power kind of movie but at the same time some of the supposed psychological stuff it tries to get at feels heavy handed.

1) Watchmen (good movie, maybe not the best adaptation)
2) Man of Steel (a solid movie that benefits from repeat viewings)
3) Dawn of the Dead (again, a solid and very entertaining flick)
4) 300 (honestly, I could careless about this flick)

never saw; Sucker Punch or Legend of the Guardians

1) Dawn of the Dead - Believe it or not, there's a scene in DofD where a woman gets smacked backwards into a bathtub by an attacking Zombie. It has no slo-motion, no digital effects and the bathtub even looks like it is located in an actual bathroom... like somebody might have in their actual home. This to me represents the peak achievement of Zack Snyder's film-making.

2) Watchmen - A lot of interesting stuff from the source material here. He does a good job with some of it and actively undermines some of it, but he had the clout to tell as close to the whole story as possible in a movie and didn't totally fumble the ball IMO.

3) 300 - I was aghast the first time I saw this and couldn't believe that people loved it so much. Time has softened me towards somewhat though. The script is actually pretty good and if ever a story warranted such an insanely heavy-handed approach, it was this one right?

4) Man of Steel - Just saw this for the second time over the weekend. Liked the parts I liked in the first place even more. Disliked the parts I disliked in the first place even more too. This movie is good enough to warrant a sequel that actually further explores this particular Superman/Clark Kent. Shame it doesn't appear to be getting that.

5) Sucker Punch - Everyone I've ever talked to who saw this, hates it. I pretty much do too. I'm surprised there are so many defenders of it in this forum and others. Honestly, how did Snyder or any of its defenders expect anybody to follow or care about the differences between fantasy and reality when his reality is just as chock full of hyper-stylized, effects-laden fantasy images as his fantasy. A complete failure in nearly every way.

Never saw the talking Eagle movie.

Never seen the others but I am curious about Sucker Punch. I see it in the $7.88 bin all the time but always put it back.

1. Watchmen DC - never watched the theatrical version

2. 300 - a faithful retelling of the graphic novel with extra added bits.

3. Man of Steel - lots to like here, but lots that makes me scratch my head too

Haven't seen the others
