Just received this e-mail:

But yeah, basically I submitted a request to the support team regarding my (expired) code for Yes Man, saying that I had just bought it and the code was already expired. They basically told me sorry, it was a limited time thing.. then I got this e-mail today. It's cool of them to do this, even if it is two years later. Did anyone else receive an e-mail recently about them reviving a digital copy for you? I know several of you e-mailed about Inception whenever you bought it (the Inception DC was only valid for six months). |

I also got an email saying that they reactivated the codes but the code for that movie, Sex and the City, did not work. I also tried another code that was expired and never redeemed (Sherlock Holmes) and it didn't work either. I emailed them back to see what's up.

I had an old code for The Town that was expired & didn't work when I first tried. I tried again about a week ago & it went through. It's probably a good idea to try expired codes every now & then just in case they've reactivated them. I've still got a code for Get Smart that hasn't worked yet. That's the only code I haven't been able to use.

I just entered all of my non-UV DC codes the other day, favoring iTunes where possible. It appears WB has reactivated only the Windows Media versions of their very oldest DC codes; Batman (1989), The Dark Knight, the TEs of all three LOTRs, and Sex and the City all failed in iTunes but worked in WMV. (My LOTR EE codes all redeemed in iTunes.) Oddly, SATC worked even though I had redeemed it in WMV on an older PC when it came out back in 2008.
Out of all the DC codes I entered (most of which were expired), only two wouldn't redeem anywhere: Amadeus, offered in WMV only, had been redeemed previously (I suspect WB changed its DC infrastructure between the releases of SATC in late 2008 & Amadeus in early 2009), while Sony's Obsessed (offered in iTunes, PSP or WMV) wouldn't redeem at all. (It seems Sony has retired its pre-UV DC infrastructure completely; even the help links nearly all came up "site not found".) I suspect those of you still getting "expired" from WB codes are entering them in iTunes instead of WMV. Generally, iTunes DCs are redeemed in iTunes itself (with rare exceptions you don't even need the on-disc app); WMV DCs are redeemed by the studio directly and usually require the on-disc app. Since WB (like Sony) is now exclusively UV, it seems they didn't tell Apple to reactivate their codes in iTunes; however, WB (unlike Sony) has kept its WMV servers active. It was probably easier for them to leave everything open till they pull the WMV servers offline for good (apparently sometime in 2014) than continually expire & re-authorize the various movies on those servers. |
