Default Disney Infinity

Looks like Disney is taking the Skylanders concept and is about to go to competition this summer.

Article - http://www.polygon.com/2013/1/15/387...isney-infinity

Trailer ->

The Disney Infinity Platform includes:

Disney Infinity Interactive Pieces – Initially a line of 40 collectible interactive pieces will be introduced that allow players to expand and customize their play experiences.
Disney Infinity Interactive Character Figures – Seventeen character figures will allow players to experience a variety of their favorite characters in true to property experiences and in “Toy Box” mode.
Disney Infinity Base – When figures are placed on the Infinity base, they unlock the world and play experiences of Disney Infinity.
Disney Infinity Power Discs – Interactive discs can be placed on the Infinity base to power up characters and “Toy Box” with unique powers, customizations and gadgets.

Disney has also released the initial pricing information for these elements:

Starter Pack: $74.99
Play Set Pack: $34.99
Disney Infinity Figure: $12.99

Given how well known most Disney characters are I can see this outstripping Skylanders if the product is equally enjoyable for children. I know someone who I think may well buy it if Genie from Aladdin is playable.

I have a strong feeling however that somehow Kingdom Hearts will still have more Disney-like/iconic worlds than this. Not based on anything scientific, just a gut feeling.

Saw this at the Microsoft store here in portland and my kids loved it. they like skylanders but with the more familiar characters from Disney it could be a huge hit.

I will pick this up on the xbox one if it comes out

Really hope this game hits next gen consoles. Want to get it for the PS4. Strange it wasn't announced for the PS4/X1.

This iteration of the game will not be hitting next gen consoles other then the Wii U. It has been confirmed however that future installments in the series will be playable on the next gen consoles and that the figures and playsets from this iteration will work with them as well.

Also Kotaku ran a story on this breaking down the total cost.

Quote:
How Much Is Disney Infinity Going To Cost You?

Disney's collectible toy video game platform launches tomorrow, which means parents and fans will be raiding video game aisles across the country to score the initial wave of toys and playsets. How much money should they bring? All of it.

First thing you're going to need, whether you're a curious gamer or a haggard parent, is a starter kit. This includes the Infinity base, which connects to your game console via USB (except the 3DS version, which connects through magic), a game-enhancing Power Disc, a cube to unlock three adventure modes and three figures — Captain Jack Sparrow, Mr. Incredible and Sully from Monsters Inc.

I'm using GameStop prices here, since they generally stick to MSRP as far as games go, unless they're used. they've got the starter pack at $74.99. That's the bare minimum you can spend.

Mind you the 3DS version of the game isn't the magical creation tool we've been talking about for months. It's a collection of themed mini-games that use the same figures as the console versions. I see no standalone version for sale yet, so if you want portable and console, it's $150.

Do you have more than one child? Do you want to play the adventure playsets in co-op mode? Since only characters of the corresponding property can exist in an adventure playset, you'll need at least one other figure from each of the game's three starting worlds.

That means you'll need either the Sidekicks Pack or the Villains Pack. Retailing for $29.99, these packs contain three villains or additional heroes from each of the three starting worlds — Davy Jones, Syndrome and Randall Boggs, or Barbossa, Mrs. Incredible and Mike Wozowski.

Assuming you only need one version of the game, we're up to 104.98.

What about those other two adventure worlds? Are you getting the most out of Disney Infinity if you don't have the Lone Ranger and Cars sets? No, you are not. Both of these packs contain two figures and a cube that unlocks what is essentially an entirely new adventure game within Disney Infinity. They're $39.99 apiece (you can find them for $34.99 elsewhere).

We're up to $184.96 before taxes.

If we're spending this much, might as well get the rest of the toys, right?

Each individual figure runs $13.99 — much more expensive than normal-sized Skylanders. The good news is we saved $24 buying the Villains and Sidekicks packs! The bad news? That still leaves Francesco Bernulli and Mater from Cars and Violet and Dash from The Incredibles.

Adding those to the pile, our grand total is $240.92. Good thing your kids don't want those game-enhancing Power Disc Packs! We'll ring you up for two at $5.99.

$252.90. Is that too large a price to pay for happiness? You should probably just make the plunge. The new stuff starts rolling out in October, with the $39.99 Toy Story in Space playset and another 10 figures.

Thanks for that info. Good thing I was planning on still buying some of the toys while I waited for a new installment or next gen release.

If you don't enjoy something, I could understand. But why put an age limit on things that could provide you entertainment. I'm 30 and love Disney,Pixar, Harry Potter and number of other things that may have been intended for a younger audience.

Warning to anyone who bought the PS3 version of the game, there is apparently an issue with the patch that tries to automatically download (though you have to approve it) that locks the game up:

http://kotaku.com/ps3-version-of-dis...erm-1164072959

Until it is fixed, it sounds like it's best not to download it, but that means not being able to play online for the mean time (though that's better than the current option of downloading it and having it lock the game up left and right). It also sounds like it might be best to disable your internet connection on your PS3 while playing until this is fixed, otherwise the game prompts you to update it every few minutes if you are connected.

I guess I'm glad that I ended up opting for the Wii U version (that is by no means a knock against the PS3 in general... I love my PS3, I'm just glad that I'm not having this sort of a problem right now).

I originally had preordered the game from Amazon for PS3. That preorder came with a free additional single figure (I had picked Mater), and I also had preordered the villains and sidekicks 3-packs. But when I heard about Toys R Us's Buy 1 get 1 50% off for all Disney Infinity figures/items, I couldn't pass that up even if it meant for-fitting the free figure. I canceled my Amazon order and bought it at TRU since my order hadn't shipped yet. I was debating on which version to get since I like the Trophy support for PS3, but I like the off-TV play option for the Wii U. I ended up going with the Wii U version (though I'll likely get the PS3 version sometime down the road on a good sale since the figures work with all versions).

I spent WAY too much on this game! Thanks to TRU's sale, with the purchase of the game, I got the Cars multi-pack for half off. Then I got the two 3-packs that I was originally going to get from Amazon (the villains pack and sidekicks pack) and got one of them half off. I bought 4 individual figures (two of which ended up being half off), Mater, the TRU exclusive version of Lighting McQueen, and both kids from the Incredibles.

TRU also had those disc packs where you buy one at full price and get a second for $1. I got 4 packs in total. 2 of them were standard packs, the other two were TRU exclusive packs.

Originally this was going to be it for my day one purchases. But then I found out that Target was offering the Cars and Lone Ranger packs straight up for half off (no need to buy anything else to get it for half off). I already got the Cars pack from my TRU purchases, but I got the last Lone Ranger pack that was sitting out at my local Target. I wasn't very excited about those characters, but for half off I wasn't going to complain.

As far as I know, the only launch figure that I don't have is Francisco from Cars. I didn't bother since there was no other figure to buy in addition to him to get half off of one of them. I figure I'll get him on some kind of sale later on.

Here's a pic of my haul:

I never did get into Skylanders. I was tempted a few times to try, but the thought on catching up on past figures was daunting and expensive. Then when I heard about this game, I figured this would be more up my alley anyway since both my wife and I are big Disney fans. Granted, it's still expensive, but at least I got some good deals and I'm starting from launch. I only had a little time to actually play the game last night, but it's cool so far. I only messed around in the toy box for a bit with Sully from Monsters University. I plan to get some more time in with it tonight.

Nice haul. Personally going to wait for the PS4 version to be released but I really want to see some Disney classics like Duck Tales, Chip n Dale, Peter Pan and Beauty and the Beast.

Plan on picking up Jack Skellington, Sorcerer Mickey and Frozen playset though before I get the game.

Picked up the PS3 version, and while the couple of lock-ups have been mildly annoying it's the corrupt save files that are upsetting my kids and PISSING me off to no end. No excuse for this garbage...

WOW!. Glad I decided to pass on this!. I'm just waiting to get Skylanders Swap Force for PS4. I hope they fix the PS3 problem. And agree they should have worked all of this out before hand.. Has the online playing going?

Delete the game data that has the download update, then reinstall the disc data and play it offline (disable the internet connection while playing). This should allow the game to work fine in local player mode. I know it's not ideal, but it will at least allow the game to function.

-----------
On a separate note, I stopped by a different TRU on my lunch break. I bought the Francisco figure and also got the TRU exclusive power disc album for 50% off (the TRU exclusive version holds the standard and TRU exclusive discs). I also picked up a couple more packs of the discs, mainly got doubles of what I already have. I hate blind packs!

I was thinking about getting Skylanders for the kids at Xmas (my eldest, almost 5, goes already Gaga for the T shirts), but then I saw Disney Infinity announced.

And then, I saw the prices.

F* this, Skylanders it is.

That's great and I didn't say that as a knock against anyone that does. Just for me, I do think Im too old to enjoy this. This isn't the type of game I go for and I cant see myself spending money to collect the corresponding toys to expand the experience. If I had children, then maybe Id be more inclined to do so, but that's not the case for me.
