Germany Tess

NEWS
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=7940

Quote:
German distributors Concorde Video have revealed that they are planning to release on Blu-ray acclaimed director Roman Polanski's Tess (1979), starring Nastassja Kinski, Leigh Lawson, and Peter Firth. In 1981, the film won three Oscar Awards, including Best Cinematography and Best Best Art Direction-Set Decoration. The preliminary release date set by the distributors is March 15th.

Note: Sony Pictures Home Entertainment controls the distribution rights for the film in the U.S. Its DVD release of Tess is currently out of print.

Does the quality of Concorde Video releases tend to be good?

Thanks for the heads up Pro-B.

This is a welcome release. Let's hope more Polanski appears on BD in 2012. Surely Paramount can't allow their 100th anniversary year to pass without releasing Rosemary's Baby and Chinatown. And it would be great if Warner/New Line could release Death And The Maiden.

Concorde's BD of "The Mothman Prophecies" has forced German subtitles, so I'm not ordering this one until I see a review, methinks.

Ah - thanks for the warning. It's unusual for German BDs to have forced subs (unlike the French BDs), but I will also wait to see a review before ordering.

I'm not sure what's going on but I've just noticed that Amazon.de are now showing the release date as 15th March 2011 (instead of 2012), so their system has (presumably automatically) changed the availability to "ships in 7 to 13 days".

Does anyone have any more info about the status of this release?

I don't know why Tess is not available to pre-order. Other March Concorde releases are, including ones with later release dates. I'm worried that it may be dropped from the schedule.

The release date is now shown on Amazon.de as 6th July 2011. I'm wondering whether someone has simply mis-typed the year as 2011 instead of 2012 when making the update.

On that theory, the actual release date may now be 6th July 2012.

It never has been available on BD, but they are still showing a (fictitious) release date of 6th July 2011 (could that be a typo for 2012?) and they have now set up an e-mail notification facility for it. That suggests it may still be released at some point in the foreseeable future.

It's now listed as being released on the 7th of June. Let's hope it doesn't change again!
