Default DISCUSSION: What Comedy Reboot Do You Want To See Next?

After the massive success of the Roseanne reboot last night, you can be assured that Hollywood is scrambling right now to get another reboot ready to be announced for the upcoming upfronts in May. The only question is: what is next?

For the purpose of this poll, I only included comedies. I also only included shows where their final episode aired no later than December 31, 2012.

Futhermore, I wanted to make it realistic so I only included shows in which most of the actors are still alive/active in Hollywood. Let's pretend that there is no bad blood between cast members - I know some shows on here have actors who may not like each other, but let's pretend that money talks

These are often a lot of the most requested, so here they are.

I did not include shows that had spin-offs already, potential movies, blacklisted actors (Cosby), etc.

I'd be down for a Seinfeld or Home Improvement revival, although the latter seems unlikely considering how ABC recently treated Tim Allen and his last show. The Wonder Years would be interesting, too, but I'd miss the dad since the series finale revealed he died sometime in the '70s.

Family Matters being relegated to 'OTHER'. Disgusting. Delete this thread!

Home Improvement. Tim Allen has said he is open to the idea of a revival/reboot of the show

ABC might give Tim more leeway now. If ABC offered Tim a nice pay increase, and all the original cast - and maybe even some roles for his LMS co-stars (which I would love) - I'm sure he would jump at this.

Doubtful that Michael J Fox could handle the schedule, but a Family Ties reboot where Alex’s son or daughter was an ultra-liberal would probably be the way to go.

Does anyone think Leonardo DiCaprio would be game for a Growing Pains reboot?

I could see a reboot of https://www.blu-ray.com/Perfect-Strangers/254876/ do well. It would have to be different than the original which showed the contrast between a free spirited foreign cousin and his uptight yuppie American cousin.
However, it could be topical to have a foreign cousin possibly with immigration issues live with his conservative American cousin.

Night Court, any character could be brought back believably. NY (and the world) is different enough that things could be different enough from the original to be interesting while keeping some nostalgia.

Malcolm in Middle is always the first one I think of.

Pretty much everyone from the cast is in favor of it outside of the actor that plays Dewey.

It'd also be cool to see Cranston go back to the role now that he's such a well regarded serious actor.

No options for none of the above?

Unless they change the multi cam laugh track formula that's been done to death then i don't want to see ANY sitcom reboots. Even ones that i truly love like Seinfeld and Friends. Back then it was a different time and it made sense for the time.

But in 2018? i find it personally so outdated. I saw a glimpse of Roseanne last night while eating and boy was it awful.

Freaks and Geeks I think would be the most interesting given how short-lived the show was, and the fact that the characters were teenagers on the show but would be in their mid-thirties now.

Oops on my part - you are correct. Though, as another poster mentioned and as I was thinking, it might make more sense for a reunion to take place 20 years from when the original show took place (so that the actors would be around the same age as their characters) instead of present time.

From that list Friends and Seinfeld because all the cast members are still alive and they’d be the easiest to do.

I’m sure Friends will eventually get at least a reunion of some kind. Them all moving back together again for multiple seasons wouldn’t be realistic.

Seinfeld would be very easy. It’s a show about nothing. Just funny situations they get into. Maybe have Kramer have actual an job now.

Fresh Prince would seem very odd without James Avery.

Everybody Loves Raymond, even without Marie and Frank, could focus on Ray and Debra being the annoying parents to thier grown kids. I know a Robert spinoff was talked about.

I too thought of Wonder Years. That could definitely work. Could even have Daniel Stern narrate Kevin’s trail and tribulations of having a family.

Clarissa Explains it All is being continued although I don’t know if Nick shows are seen in the same way as other sitcoms. I think it’s more of a Nick thing.

Other for me would be King of Queens. I never really liked how it ended but now adding kids to the household would make for new storylines.

They should have just continued that instead once Leah Remini rejoined Kevin James.

I recently met Melissa Joan Hart at the NJ Christmas Con and asked her about the status on the "Clarissa" revival. She said that, unfortunately, it doesn't look like that it will happen.

She said that there were "talks" about a year ago, but then Nickelodeon changed presidents and they felt that a "Clarissa" revival wouldn't work with their current programming.

I would've said Frasier, but after John Mahoney passed away it would be too sad.
I'd love to see back Friends, The Nanny and Mad About You.

A Mad About You revival is currently in development, according to Paul Reiser.
