I thought the first one was actually funny, the sequel not so much.

Will check the trailer for the second sequel tomorrow then.

Creed, thanks for posting the info and trailers on these new 3D films. I really hope Smurfs Lost Village taps into the cartoon series and stops with the live action stuff. I would've liked to have seen a CGI Cel shaded film, but they continue with the CGI look instead.

I've been very underwhelmed with the 3D in these movies. I hope Sony Animation goes back to the Open Season 3D days, offering much stronger 3D. Smurfs 3D has mostly mild 3D except for some great pop outs once in blue moon.

I'd like to see another Shrek 3D movie with even better than the last movie, 3D.

Teaser trailer is out. Not much to go on yet, but right off the bat they have an out of the window setup which suggests they'll make effective use of 3-D.

This reminds me, we still need to watch Smurfs 2 3D.

I have a nostalgic soft spots for these little blue guys and my son thinks they're funny too.

When the movie's first came out we had a whole mess of Happy Meal toys and used to tell funny stories with all the smurf characters.

Thanks for posting the trailer. Here's hoping for the best. Good to hear it'll be a fully animated feature and reportedly no live action in this one as in the prior two.

That would be interesting if they can bring Shrek back with a new story. I imagine it could happen.

The original cartoon series is classic, yes, and maybe this movie will tap into that a lot more this time as Blue Sky did with the faithful Peanuts 3D.

I loved the first Smurfs film in 3D. Was not a fan of the sequel at all. But after watching the trailer this looks like it might be fun.

Smurfs The Lost Village 3D opens in theaters next Friday, April 7, 2017 from Sony Pictures. Here's hoping Sony Animation hired a new stereographer to return to the levels of Open Season's very strong 3D presentation compared to the milder 3D of the prior Smurfs Live action film (s). To be fair, I didn't see part 2 where they're playing basketball, but part 1, the only time the 3D wasn't mild was during the action scenes and the pop outs. Otherwise, that one has mostly mild 3D for the live action scenes.

This looks a lot better regarding the Smurfs. I wasn't a fan of the other films where they are out of their element, visiting a real New York city with humans.

Only two 3D screenings per day near me, both matinees during work hours, which means I'll be unable to see the film during theatrical release. Hoping the 3D-Bluray release goes ahead.

In the earlier years, at one point I thought Sony had the most promising CG animation studio in North America outside of pixar. I no longer feel the same way. They do seem to have retained at least some of the talent that made the earlier efforts shine, as can be seen in the flawless cartoon aesthetic of the trailer.

Haven't seen the live action Smurf movies, but I was quite happy with the 3D in Sony's other animated films.

Thanks Interdimensional.

Open Season's 3D is amazing to this day, with strong 3D layers and pop outs from start to finish. The water rapids scene is unbelievable in 3D. As a result, anything with less potent 3D such as Smurfs 3D (with Patrick Harris as the lead character, Smurfs as secondary characters) pale in comparison.

I saw both Cloudy with Meatballs; part 1 looked generally good in 3D, but part 2, mild 3D most of the way sadly. Hotel Transylvania's 3D, mild sadly too.

Heard good things about Arthur Christmas 3D.
Here's hoping Smurf's Village 3D and Emoji 3D crank up the 3D effects. Unfortunate to see so many animation stereographers being very timid, like Laika Animation of Boxtrolls, Paranorman and Kubo Two Strings 3D. Then Pixar being more conservative most times too (except for Good Dinosaur's 3D). Disney animation tend to be medium 3D, Dreamworks tends to offer stronger 3D most times.

Amazon DE shows a pre-order for the 3D version already (only one I've found). Doesn't guarantee anything but it's a good sign!

No 3d sessions near me. I usually avoid films like this in cinemas, but I remember playing with smurf toys as a kid. Hopefully there is a 3d blu-ray.

We'll see how Sony handles the blu ray 3D. It could be a blu ray 3D exclusive. I'll consider this one. As a kid, it would've been nice if the Smurfs had some action figures with moveable arms and legs, but all they offered in the stores back then were little miniatures in static poses for display.
