Default Control (2007) - Biopic on Ian Curtis / Joy Division

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUz6y6ANIgE
Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Control_(2007_film)

This is one of my favorite movies of the last decade. I just got into Blu Ray a few months ago and have been trying to go back and get all of my favorite movies on BD. This was one of the few I was worried about because there is only a German release. All over the internet, including this site (https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Control-Blu-ray/2657/), I see references to it being region coded.

There is a thread in the German forum about this BD release here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?p=2333656

I took a chance and ordered a copy of it, and it turns out it is NOT REGION CODED! Plays perfectly in my Panasonic BD-60 (which is not a region free player). There are no english subtitles but there are english audio tracks.

I am so thrilled about this that I figured it is worth posting in this forum as well since the film was released in theaters in the USA and is available on DVD. I'm sure some people would love to upgrade.

It looks and sounds GREAT!!!! Definitely pick this one up if you enjoyed the film, Joy Division / post-punk music, etc

Cheers!

Awesome! That is great news. Just added it to my amazon.de cart
One or two more movies and I'll be good to order

I love this film! Superb soundtrack of some of the best bands from that decade and musical style!

Thanks for letting us know.

Good news and bad news. Good news is that the picture quality (in my opinion) is fantastic. Audio seems solid too but I don't have a good system to judge it with. No complaints really.

Bad news - most of the special features don't work. The only one that worked is a german version of the trailer. The rest -- interviews, music videos, etc... all just came up with a black screen for me when I tried to play them.

I really hope this is true because this is one of my favorite films and I saw the original screening at the Cannes Film Festival and have been in love with it ever since! Hopefully it will work in the Panasonic BD80 ...

I've been a New Order fan since I was a teen in the late '80's & first heard Bizzare Love Triangle - great introduction to the band, and this & other NO songs have become some of my favorites over the years.

That being said, at that time I was never that familiar or into JD, even though I knew they were connected to NO in some way.

So, when I finally saw Control in the late 200X's, I was surprised at how much I liked the film. Extremely well-done, and this film really made me appreciate JD's work. You really felt like you were back in the late '70's UK; the b&w cinematography was genius, since IMHO it really fit the gloomy storyline/music. It's now my favorite bio-pic. ever, and also one of my favorite films about rock/pop music.

And, after I saw the movie I went out and bought a JD "best of" CD. Sure, I'm still not a hardcore fan of the band, but after seeing this movie I can't think of New Order without also thinking of Joy Division...
