Default Power of Myth Blu-ray To be Released March 4, 2025

This is just danged exciting for me. This is one of two of my fave Videos to fully imbibe when times are difficult or worse. The other is Carl's Cosmos.

Sure, "Power..." has it's problems, mostly in terms of Editing - there are places where Joe is clearly not answering the question that Bill puts forth... very weird...

But I fully enjoy the back-and-forth between Joe and Bill, especially the times when Joe looks like he's about to take Bill to the Woodshed and say (in the nicest possible way), "Jane, you ignorant s**t..."

A few decades ago, I was being interviewed for a Trade Journal and the Interviewer asked me, "If there is an Afterlife, what would you like it to be?" I told the interviewer he sounded like Babwa Walters... he didn't know who she was, and I told him she was an Interviewer who almost always ended her interviews with the silly question, "If you could be a Tree, which one would you like to be?" I thought for a few moments and finally said, "If there's an Afterlife, I wanna moderate a Table Discussion between Joe Campbell and Carl Sagan." Things really haven't changed much for me.

Basically, this series explores the Psychology and Mythology of "Man." Personally, I think it is timeless... and in my humble estimation, seriously "Good For What Ails Ya..."

I hope they did a nice job on the Quality... but I have my doubts, mostly because I think this has already been released on Blu somewhere and I've heard it's not really all that great..

Day-one purchase from me; pre-ordered, in fact.

I believe that it was shot on video, so I'm not sure how much improvement the upscaling can do, but every bit helps. Will be glad to get this.

I trust that there won't be any idiotic color tampering. (I mean, why would there be? This is just a documentary.)

Altogether I'd love to see more documentaries of this era on blu-ray (e.g., more Michael Wood documentaries, as well as James Burke series such as The Day the Universe Changed and the original Connections; also outstanding TLC series such as Great Castles of Europe).

My thoughts exactly... I understand they really messed-up the Cosmos Blu-Ray.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=287844

Actually... after rereading the Cosmos Thread, I guess the Verdict on it's quality wasn't anywhere as definitive as I'd remembered... in fact after looking at the Large Examples (that didn't load for me previously), it looks pretty decent. Too bad there's no subtitles, and I guess, not even the Science Updates Subs, which kinda defeats the purpose of a Science Documentary... That seems weird.

I've pre-ordered this, but it better have subtitles!

Also, someone needs to reprint the companion book because it is OPP.

I was never a big Cosmos fan and always found it massively overrated compared to far better big docs of the time, such as Civilisation and the James Burke and Michael Wood series and others.

Having said that, I did check your link, and while I am pleased to see that they didn't subject the series to any disgusting color grading, the fact that they replaced the original music is utterly appalling. If I were a fan of Cosmos, I would never buy the blu-ray for that reason alone and would stick to the DVDs.

If the content of the Power of Myth blu-ray is changed, as opposed to simply the resolution, I will NOT buy it.

I will never fathom this idea of making content changes for blu-rays. All I want, all I've ever wanted, from HD media is improved resolution; more detail. Stop ruining the product with unwanted revisionism.

I don't see "Subtitles" listed there. I guess it likely doesn't have them... sigh. Anyone know?

Very nice to see the Mythology of Star Wars included. Was hoping for that.

Just FYI: I didn't see the "Review" of this here until just a few days ago... and the review says it has Subtitles... when is great for hard-of-hearing folks like me. : )

Maybe we could get a link to this "Discussion" on the Review Page?
