Default Given up seeing movies in the theater?

I thought about seeing Wolverine this weekend but realized that I probably wouldn't get to enjoy it. So, I'll probably get the Blu in 3-4 months.

Now, I remember when seeing a movie was a big deal. Certainly better than the old b/w tv with 3 channels. It was escapism and the audience 99% of the time behaved.

That doesn't happen anymore.

The thought of spending money to end up watching the screens of at least 10 smart phones, the running commentators/comedians who pontificate over the soundtrack or the angry bag scruncher...

Nah. No more.

How about you?

Not getting the excitement of seeing a film with an audience or hearing the laughter from a funny joke is a big loss when you see a movie at home. A lot of the fun factor is gone.

If you keep getting rude audience members, you should try going at a matinee show (On weekdays, if you can). Most of the annoying teenagers and blabbering critics appear at night. It's cheaper too.

I rarely go anymore. If I want to listen to people talk over the movie I will go to my parents and watch a DVD there. I also don't have kids for a reason. Unless it is an animated kids film keep the brats at home. You gave up the right to go see R rated movies and eat in nice restaurants the moment you squeezed your kid out for the next 18 years.

Threads like this I'm glad my theatre has insanely strict rules. They'll kick you out for even putting your feet on the seats.

Lucky! Haven't been to a theater since Quantum of Solace. Went to go see The Wolverine last night, parking downtown was impossible, so I came home. Kinda relieved. Cannot put up with the phones glowing and ringing; people talking, snoring, and seat kicking; and babies crying.

Living in Taiwan & going to see a movie sounds like it sucks Travis You have a PJ so you have it made

I myself have not been to a movie theater in probably 20 years. Just got tired of the crowd I guess & everything that goes with it. Now that I have a dedicated Home Theater with a good sound system in it with Blu-ray it is better then any theater in my opinion...

That's where I want to be! Like many people, I have a hard time getting motivated to see a movie at the theater. For me to go to the theater I have to be excited and eagerly anticipating the film, otherwise it's just not worth it.

Harsh, but I totally agree.

There is nothing worse than being in an R rated film, and some guy/girl that cannot afford a babysitter, comes walking in with a bunch of kids.

I haven't had these massive bad experiences as some of you I guess. Nut I can say kids today are 100% losers from when I was a kid. Just no respect for anyone but themselves. Clearly my age grew up and taught their kids to be real d-bags???

Jesus Christ, I hope you're not this cynical and unlikeable in real life.

I love going to the movies. I've had a bad theater experience here and there, but its not very often.

Never had an issue. Sometimes I actually enjoy a large audience. 85% of the crowd wants to be invested in the movie. I can't recall one time where the 15% ruined my experience. I definitely can't think of a time when young children were at an R film.

Another thing we do is we only go to premiere weekend if it's something we're crazy about seeing. Other than that go the 3rd weekend or at 1pm or a weekday. You won't be as much of a grouch then.

Way back when, when I was in my teens & 20's, I probably went to the theatre once a week. Seems like I saw everything. Nowadays, I can barely be bothered to go more than 3-4 times a year. It has to be something that I really want to see-something that needs that "theatre experience." Maybe it's just a function of age that I don't mind watching most things at home...

After seeing too many shittacular and craptastic films in the last year, I'm pretty much giving up on theatrical releases. I may still go occasionally, but I'll never ever go once or twice a week again, as I used to. Even the films I've enjoyed (Dark Knight trilogy for one) seem to be rather lacking upon re-watches.

My father (65) was once complaining after a night at the movies with my mother how obnoxious was to hear people eating popcorn, etc. My mother pointed out that when they were teeenagers in the sixties, people pretty much brought a picnic to the cinema and talked the whole movie.
So, when these things start to annoy you that much is because YOU are getting REALLY old. Nothing compares to the cinema experience.

Just about. They no longer do midnight movies anymore, so I have to deal with kids, etc at these 8 pm screenings and it sucks. Also I hate this, "Get a free poster" if you go first day, etc. I never see any of this stuff at the theater.

I'm not a fan of the "Theater Experience" not in an actual theater, or at home. I rarely go anymore, the last movie I seen in theaters was Man of Steel. That was the first time I had been to a large theater that had more than two screens in 10 years.

They still do midnight movies along with the 8pm shows. You could always just go to those. No one is forcing you to go to the 8pm.

Yes, but now they give you the option of seeing it earlier, which I like. I just don't like the younger, larger crowds at the earlier shows. At the midnight shows, it was almost no kids.

With movie pass, the opposite is true. I have seen five movies in the theater this week alone.

I understand, but naturally if you have an earlier show, more kids will show up. That's just how it goes. They love seeing a movie premiere at night and getting home before curfew.

I suppose not all of them do it. You know how it is though, some theaters sign on for things, some of them don't. It's just the luck of the draw.
