Pokkén Tournament - March 18, 2016

Pokkén Tournament is scheduled to be released during the same month as Twilight Princess HD but at a later date — March 18, 2016.

So far the following is already known:

• All first prints come with a special amiibo card of Shadow Mewtwo.
• Will feature over 16 playable characters reportedly and more to come (possibly).
• Includes local multiplayer so no need to buy 2 Wii Us and 2 copies of the game.
• Hori will be releasing the 'proper' controller of Pokkén Tournament but even though it's not confirmed it is logical to assume it'll be playable with the Wii U Pro Controller and Wii U GamePad. Saves buying another controller (the 'proper' controller lacks the use of analogue sticks).

And news keep on coming so this list will never be complete but it's sure to be an awesome game. Nice to have a Japanese arcade machine game released in the west.

This post is actually my first time hearing about NX. I'm not willing to wait though. I've been dreaming of a game like this since Pokemon first came out. Pokemon rumble was a fun substitute but this is the real mccoy from everything I've seen.

Although Pokkén Tournament represents a dream come true for folks eagerly awaiting a Pokémon fighting game, new specifications confirmed for the official controller make the dream a bit more awkward than is probably necessary.

According to its Nintendo UK store listing, the arcade-inspired peripheral won’t be available to the first player in multiplayer matches, who will instead have to make due with the unwieldy Wii U gamepad. This leads us to believe that, much like other games before it, Pokkén Tournament also won’t support the unique controller in single-player modes. It should be noted that the game’s LAN mode may do away with this necessity, but we’ll have to wait until Nintendo provides the final word.

Oh, when I read that "Well this sucks" I thought they'd had delayed the game but it's just regarding that Pokken controller. Whatever. I prefer to use WUPC always if possible.

According to the article, 1st player must use the game pad. That's they're only option. No pro controller either.

LMAO! I swear this is a microcosm of how messed up and backwards Nintendo's method of doing business is. It's like they run their company in such a vacuum they are oblivious to the pulse of the industry

I definitely agree. Every time they come out with something new that I might get excited about, there's some kind of caveat to it that makes me scratch my head and go "WHY?!"

Honestly, the only thing that I can come up with is that it sounds like "Tekken Tournament" and it is being developed and published by Bandai/Namco. Probably not the real reason but it's the only thing I could think of that made sense.

The Pokken Tournament Championship Series will officially begin at select Gamestop stores on February 27th, which is “Pokemon Day.” Players who attend will learn how to play the game, duke it out, and then the winner of each age division will progress from there:


Pokken Tournament Championship SeriesThe Pokkén Tournament Early Access Competitions are open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis, and will be split into two age brackets: players born in 2001 or later and players born in 2000 or earlier. The winner of each age bracket will then be trained by a professional fighting game player during fun training sessions that will be shared on Nintendo social media channels. Once training is complete, the winner from each city and age bracket and a guest will be flown to the Nintendo NY store on March 17 for the Pokkén Tournament Early Access Competition finals, where they will battle against all other local champions. The winners of the Pokkén Tournament Early Access Competition finals will each win a Wii U system, the Pokkén Tournament game and a travel award to Columbus, Ohio, where they will battle at the 2016 Pokémon US National Championships for the chance to advance to the 2016 Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco.
