A list of those poor 5.1 plus remixes that contain new audio or are missing original audio. If it's simply the same original material rejigged to be spread out through a greater number of channels then it doesn't belong here. Minor tweaks such as volume adjustment or placing the same. I'm not a fan of remixes in principle, but this thread is here to sort out of the harmless also-rans from the kneecapped. Any corrections or additions are most welcome.

Added: CLERKS.
Compared BD 5.1 with original 2.0 stereo mix (can't remember if it was DVD or LD). Well, I didn't have to look far to spot the flaws with this one... All of the original Foley from the opening credits sequence song is missing. Fridge opening, milk being poured, cash reigster, etc... ALL GONE. They really weren't trying here. No point going any further. |

Is it possible you can actually for The Exorcist specify that it's the extended cut that has the bad remix? Yes it was reconformed to the theatrical cut for the 4K disc, but before that, it was exclusive to only the extended cut (and should've stayed that way). Can you also add the 1998 5.1 theatrical cut remix as a good remix for The Exorcist? It's remarkably faithful to the original mono and I was sad to see it get replaced with the reconformed Atmos remix for the 4K disc. The 1998 remix originated on the 25th anniversary DVD and that same track is on the 2010 BD. There is also no UHD currently for 1941, only a BD. Grease is also Paramount not Universal and it's only the old BD that has that revisionist mix. The remastered BD has the same 70mm track as the UHD does. There's a typo on Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. I have a couple to add as well. Saturday Night Fever (new foley and a missing song cue in the opening) Witness (new sound effects and missing dialogue in one scene) |

I extensively checked the 5.1 on the BD repeatedly and I couldn't find a single new sound effect, the mono sounds are retained but are simply stereoized. I'd argue it's a significant improvement over the 1979 remix (the mix on the 1997 DVD), especially considering that one did have "enhancements" that popped up on occasion. The only remote issue I could find with it was during the "do you know what she did?" scene, the background sounds of Chris's staff repeatedly knocking on the door were missing (which were fortunately restored on the 4K mono track). I even noticed a fair amount of hiss on that remix which shocked me, I wouldn't doubt there was DNR applied to it but it wasn't heavy thankfully and as a result the fidelity is miles better than the heavily DNR'd extended cut remix. Spider-Man 1's UHD Dolby Atmos track has added sound effects, most notably in the scene during the final battle where Norman throws a grenade at Peter, as well as accidentally adding back the sound of the glider flying in during the shot of Norman going "Oh." before he's killed.
Spider-Man 2 and 3 don't have the same problems with added/missing effects but do have music phasing issues, and adjusted volume/effect placements. |

I think a good idea (if it doesn't clutter the page up) would be to also list if a release with a remix has the OG audio as a separate track, or if, say, a UHD's included BD has it or it's on a separate or concurrent BD/UHD from different company/country. For example with Spider-Man, that has the original 5.1 present as both a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track and as the Atmos track's lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 core.

Black Christmas. The original 5.1 remix is about as revisionist as it gets. Every single sound effect was replaced, and music cues were also very inaccurate. Thankfully the new remix done for the UHD release is far more faithful.

The foley in the UHD of Blade Runner: The Final Cut was changed around. Some new foley was added, and other sound effects are changed compared to the original 2007 5.1 mix, which used mostly the same foley as the original Dolby Stereo mixes from earlier versions.
