After a 2nd rewatch (and careful examination) of the trailer, I noticed something interesting. At 1:59 they show some hands with long fingers and at 2:06 they show a standing figure. After I paused it, I noticed that the figure resembles an alien.
I wonder if the alien is a twist to the dream/ghost subject the trailers reflect. It would have me really interested if there is an alien twist, I love sci-fi horrors. |

With Relativity bankrupt, this might not come out domestically. Mike Flanngan explains it on facebook. I was looking forward to this.

It's way more than three. Masterminds, Collide (aka Autobahn), Kidnap, Solace, Shot Caller (which was filming when the bankruptcy was filed), and a few others (mainly marginal pickup titles such as a high school football documentary and a Steve Aoki concert film) were also in that lot. Two movies (Jane Got a Gun and Hillsong: Let Hope Rise) that Relativity had were returned to their producers and in the former's case, got a new distributor in The Weinstein Company (who already had the film's foreign rights). The Bronze has been rumored to be going to Sony (who already holds foreign rights due to pre-sales).

Perhaps they will eventually get distributed or direct to video or VOD. |

Yes, The Bronze premiered at Sundance and got a very poor reception. Relativity picked it up thinking they had their answer to Trainwreck but unlike Amy Schumer, Melissa Rauch hardly had the following (Schumer at least headlines a TV show) to get that in the black (it would have likely been another Hector and the Search for Happiness or Desert Dancer where millions were spent to pick it up and promote it only to realize there was no audience).
At this point, Sony's probably going to pick up and go day-and-date through Vertical (who distributed Predestination, Home Sweet Hell, Into the Grizzly Maze, and some others for them). As for the straight-to-VOD thing, some of the higher profile ones will eventually play theatrically. Some of the new or newer distributors out there (A24, STX, Broad Green, Bleecker Street, etc.) are hungry for product and will take whatever can make money. And a few of these movies have people involved that have relationships with other companies (Mike Flanagan has a connection with Universal through Focus/Gramercy's head helping make Oculus and him co-writing and directing Ouija 2 for the big guys, Collide's producer Joel Silver has agreements with Universal, Open Road, and Studio Canal, Masterminds' producers have arrangements with Paramount and Universal, etc.). Once the RKA lawsuit is settled, more movement should happen. Last edited by Buscemi; 09-26-2015 at 11:10 PM. |

With Relativity in Bankruptcy, ‘Disappointments Room,’ ‘Before I Wake’ Likely Postponed Again
“The Disappointments Room,” a horror film with Kate Beckinsale, and “Before I Wake,” a thriller with Kate Bosworth, have been waiting to make it to the big screen for months. As part of the flotsam and jetsam of Relativity Studios’ bankruptcy, they’ve seen their theatrical debuts pushed back several times in recent months, and with the company still in Chapter 11, it appears that their premieres will be postponed yet again. “The Disappointments Room” is slated to open in wide release on March 25, but Relativity has yet to debut a trailer for the picture and has not been doing any noticeable advertising push. With less than a month to go, that makes its opening unlikely, sources tell Variety. The film was originally slated to open on Sept. 25, 2015, but was taken off the release calendar after Relativity filed for bankruptcy protection. “Before I Wake” is currently scheduled for a wide release on April 8, and while that film does have a trailer, there hasn’t been a concerted marketing campaign behind it. The picture was originally supposed to be released on May 8, 2015, but was moved opposite “The Disappointments Room” on Sept. 25, 2015, before it was also taken off the schedule. There are questions about whether Relativity is even in a position to debut the films. The company has received conditional approval to exit bankruptcy, but Judge Michael Wiles has demanded to see more proof that Relativity has raised enough capital to continue to operate, and has signed deals with its new leaders Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti, before he allows the studio to leave Chapter 11. Nothing has been filed with the court yet that addresses those concerns. There are additional legal challenges. These films are part of a lawsuit from RKA Film Financing, which says it is owed more than $75 million for promotional loans. The film financing company claims the money was diverted to Relativity’s general operating expenses instead of being used for marketing and distribution expenses. Relativity is not due back in court until March 9. http://variety.com/2016/film/news/re...ke-1201715135/ |

Man, I feel really bad for Mike Flanagan. He made what looked like a great follow-up to Oculus, only for it to get delayed from bankruptcy nonsense.
I really hope we get to see this film one of these days. I was genuinely looking forward to it. |
