I stream Netflix and their "Super HD" is obviously a sham. The audio is just as bad as the PQ. So Im thinking about renting off Vudu, and maybe checking out Amazon Prime or Hulu, but I dont wanna waste time or money on other crap streaming services.

Vudu looks and sounds great. You can sign up and pick 5 free movies from a selection. Then, you can see the streaming of HDX for yourself. Thre is no monthly subsription with Vudu, so this "trial" won't cost you anything but 5 minutes of your time. With Vudu, you rent and/or buy movies and shows. Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu Plus are all subscription based. Granted, you can rent and purchase movies/shows on Amazon Instant Video.

Vudu is generally good, however there is a list of movies that are presented in the wrong aspect ratio. The good news is with UV, you can pick from several providers like Vudu and Cinemanow.
I've never noticed a wrong aspect ratio on Cinemanow, but there user interface is pretty atrocious. They talked about adding DTS audio to their streams, but I don't think that ever happened. Maybe it will improve under new ownership. Here is the link to the Vudu Incorrect Aspect Ratio thread. I always try to remember to check there before watching. https://forum.vudu.com/showthread.ph...io-quot-Thread |

Also Netflix Streaming quality is dependent on your own internet connection. With a 30mb/s internet connection and the playback settings on "High" you should be getting a good picture. If not then there is a problem somewhere on your end. Last edited by Cook; 08-26-2014 at 09:19 AM. |

You can rent a $0.99 movie from Vudu and check the quality in HDX, it is pretty good and loads very fast, but is not as amazing looking as BD. You own various BDs there must be at least one with a digital UV copy you can also use for free to see in HDX. |

If you want to check your Netflix quality, use Example Short 23.976.
On many systems you can also hit the Info button while you're watching a show and see what the current rate is as well, but Example Short 23.976 should work even if you can't figure out how to get that to pop up. |

I've slowly been scanning my Blus and DVDs into the service via Disc to Digital and have thought the quality is pretty good. Upgrading a DVD for $2.50 is generally cheaper than the Blu-ray and I'm mostly buying titles I otherwise wouldn't upgrade anyway for $10+.
It's also nice to "backup" my Blus so that I can watch that anywhere without having to carry along my discs so I'm free to use my iPad or even sign in on Vudu when at a friend's house via a game console or connected device. |

some newer hdx, and all 3d files have 3-1 or 5-1 audio. still not bluray quality on the audio, but par or better than dvd. much better than standard ausio streaming. Ive seen some 7-1 or 9-1 audio advertised for a few movies at one point. Image wise, HDX looks generally as good as bluray, it can be mind blowing HOWEVER note that it is NOT vudu who compresses the files, the studios submit the files for SD HD and HDX, some small studios submit files be audio delay, more comon in SD formats. Disney and a few other studios in SD are grainy, but in HDX are crisp as the bluray. SO besides connection, it depends on the studio.

Netflix HD can look very nice. It won't be Blu-ray, but it'll usually be good. I find that TV series tend to look better than movies on Netflix, but that might have something to do with the small number of movies I've caught on Netflix, as opposed to the TV series I spend most of my streaming time with. The HDX movies I've rented on Vudu have definitely been HD. Again, not Blu-ray-level of course... |
