Great idea Sony, but you know, if you're going to limit it to Sony phones (hopefully not, although I guess the idea could be to strengthen the Sony hardware lineup), how about making the friggin' phones you make available through the main carriers in the US?
You know ... like the Xperia Z2 ... with, say, Verizon?? (was looking forward to getting one after comparing all the big flagship phones, but had to settle back on a -very nice admitedly- Samsung Note 3). ![]() ![]() |

I also hope Sony expands this applications with other devices. Sony usually doesn't have the highest end phones, outside of the build and camera, so i'm pretty sure it could go on other phones.
If it goes to iOS i would be very happy along with millions of other people. If they do decide to release it outside of Sony phones I would gladly pay like $5-10 for this feature on my phone. |

As happy that I am that they're bringing PS4 remote play to phones (albeit only Sony), and I'm extremely interested in the Xperia Z3, I don't really see the fundamental value in it for those that already own a PSvita. You can get the same experience by tethering your phone to your vita for remote play, and not needing a bulky Dualshock controller that you can't put into your pocket.
Although the main issue at least for the U.S. is that no phone carrier offering unlimited data via tethering. I can see the advantage of using a service like T-Mobile, considering that they offer unlimited data, but not for tethering (I don't know any cellphone carrier that offers unlimited data for tethering in the U.S.), meaning you can only use remote play through your vita for a few hours at most every month, but you don't have that limit with this dedicated app. I think that sucks since I'd much rather tether my vita to a smartphone than have to buy some controller attachment with my phone (Hopefully Sony is at least Smart enough to let people use other controller attachments that I can put into my pocket). |

I know, but using a controller attachment with a Dualshock 4 to advertise the remote play feature is a really hard sell just on the basis that you can't put it into your pocket if you want to play PS4 games properly. If Sony made a phone in a similar form factor to the vita or at least had an elegant BT controller attachment that can fit into your pocket (even allow third party controller like from MOGA), this would be a much better sell IMO.

I do not use the Vita, because it's not comfortable in my hands, and I find controls difficult to use. That, and the only place I am ever inclined to use a portable is at the office on days when I'm the one who has to stay until the end after all the regular work is done. I'd throw a DS4 in my case, for sure. Now, I may be rare in this, but it works for me.

He said it has little value for those who already have a Vita and for that reason this is NOT for Vita owners. If he has one than this is a moot point. For those who don't, than this is a good alternative to going out and buying that handheld

I'm okay with carrying a vita and a smartphone with me since I can take it on the go, but the data cap is a deal breaker if you use remote play, so a controller attachment for the phone that is made to fit into your pocket is kind of necessary. |

This technically using a wi-fi hot-spot from a phone with a vita, but the fact that it can actually work via tethering and that this video was made when the PS4 came out in the U.S. I don't see why using a dedicated app through 4G LTE with only the phone would be a problem? Quote:
Remote play away from home isn't going to work for everyone, and I certainly would not bother if your home connection isn't up to snuff. If you're not interested in using remote play on the go like I am, that's perfectly fine. I find it works actually pretty well, and now having an option use remote play on a phone with a carrier that offers unlimited data (albeit only through the phone) sounds compelling to me. |

I'd honestly be more interested in remote play on my phone for video. I used to use my PSP for watching TV shows taped via PlayTV via remote play. And I've always wished I could use a portable device to watch extras on my blu rays, even listening to commentaries in the background, rather than having to fire up my TV. I mean all the mirroring/throw type tech to your phones require the damn TV being on as well as whatever player, and are only throwing the image.
