For those that have seen this release in Best Buy, will you comment on the on the specifications? Or, if anyone has bought it today, do you have any comments? Thanks.

Back of the case says "Stereo 2.0" audio, no extras.

Any more thoughts/reviews on this? Looks like it's pretty cheap and the cast looks interesting to me.

1. The film was released to DVD in separate theatrical and unrated editions.
2. The film was released to DVD in its OAR of 2.35:1.
3. The film was released to DVD in its native sound mix of 5.1 (Dolby Digital).

1. The Blu-ray has been confirmed to be the theatrical cut only.
2. The Blu-ray has been confirmed to be in an aspect ratio of 1.78:1. I have no idea if it's open matte or cropped.
3. The Blu-ray has been confirmed to be a DTS-HD MA 2.0 track, so a downgrade from its original 5.1 mix.

You might just want to rent the DVD if your curiosity is that high.

Wow, that is almost astonishingly shoddy treatment. And the 1.78 aspect ratio has to be cropped, not open matte. There is no matte to open, as Harris Savides shot "The Yards" in anamorphic Panavision.

Contrary to the on-site reviewer, I like this movie a lot, more so because I did not find it "conventional" at all but quite peculiar, but...

No extra features, no alternate cuts, no OAR, and a so-so transfer...?

Add this one to the ever growing list of movies I would have happily bought, if only they hadn't ruined the edition.

Definitely, some studios seem intent on discouraging any potential buyer. Makes you wonder why they bother.

A friend of mine has the french Blu Ray edition (which is a lot better = solid PQ, OAR and good audio)
If you want I can ask him if there are forced subtitles and if it's region free?

Sure, thank you (although I must confess I am not sure my interest goes that far).

And a little offtopic, just out of curiosity, where are you from? How come you are such a TORRENTE fan?

the fact this not even in the original aspect ratio, count me out. Pan and scan here we go again. Scope movies are the worst when not in the OAR. Echo Bridge this is shameful, I won't be buying this and I'll tell all my friends that may be interested what a shameful hack job this is.

They bother because 98% of people who watch it will probably not even know or care. Or will just rent it anyway. Or maybe buy it because it's cheap.

Wouldn't mind checking it out someday, but given the review, won't be for a long time. Plenty of other options.

I know, I am well aware of that, but how many casual buyers will get a film such as THE YARDS? I'd guess not that many.

I would say that people most likely to buy THE YARDS on blu-ray are people with a previous interest on the film, or that even have it already on DVD, that is, discriminating consumers with an specific interest, who are only likely to buy it for the first time or upgrade from their DVD's if the movie gets a decent audio/video presentation and, if possible, some nice extra features (remember that it has been released twice to DVD with different cuts).

By treating this release in such poor, unrespectful manner, I would think the studio is alienating its best consumer target.

It's appalling, when the standard DVD is far superior than the Blu-ray counterpart in the A/V department, thanks to Echo Bridge. An abomination to the blu-ray format!

I'm from France.
It's just that I really like this ugly crazy lazy mean character TORRENTE.
It makes me laugh a lot.

About the french BD of The Yards, I'll ask for it, I'll watch it, and then I'll report here about the quality of the french disc, and write a review so that everyone could chose what to do

Old bump, but does the DVD that's included in the combo pack present the film in the proper aspect ratio? I bought the blu-ray forever ago and have put off watching it because of the improper presentation. It only just came to my mind that there is a chance the DVD isn't bastardized in the same way. Thanks in advance.

Will this finally be released in its OAR of 2.39:1?
