Default The Wind (1986) coming from Arrow

Quote:
what would you do if going outside meant being killed by a raging hurricane, but staying indoors meant being hacked to pieces by a sickle wielding maniac? Arrow video proudly presents the wind, from prolific genre filmmaker nico mastorakis, the director behind such cult classics as hired to kill and island of death.

When mystery novelist sian anderson (meg foster, they live) arrives in the remote greek town of monemvasia, elias appleby (robert morley, the african queen), the pompous british landlord of the house she’s renting warns her of two dangers: The wind, which gets dangerously strong at night, and phil (wings hauser, vice squad), his sleazy and suspicious american handyman. As night falls and the wind starts howling, sian witnesses the shocking sight of phil burying elias’s dead body in a shallow grave in his front garden! Trapped indoors from the raging, tree-branch-breaking wind, sian must play a deadly game of cat-and-mouse with the murderous phil, who’ll stop at nothing to silence this inconvenient witness!

A tense and thrilling blend of euro-horror and late 80s slasher, the wind is a stalk ‘n’ slash hidden gem, presented here for the first time on blu-ray. Get ready to be blown away!

I can't seem to find much information on this film. The trailer looks like something I'd probably enjoy. Can anyone give a recommendation for against a blind buy for this title?

Same. I found Edge of the Axe a chore to sit through. The axe attacks were far more aggressive than I was expecting lol but the rest of the film does not live up to that. Most of the film I found to be super dull.

I hated the new 2020 trailer for THE WIND that's on the Arrow disc. The narration is gone, replaced by graphics in modern font (something I abhor) and a modern quick-cut style. Everything that I love about classic trailers is gone! I wondered why Arrow bothered creating a new trailer and the two comments above answered my question They're trying to sell the films to young 'uns. Well, that could backfire on them as noted in the comments above.

Tbh my dislike had less to do with the trailer and more to do with the actual film itself.

It’s just...not that good.

I'll keep this one in mind, but I'm usually not a fan of slashers that reveal the killer right away. It takes the mystery element fun away for me. I'm actually more psyched about Blood Tide.

I thought edge of the axe was awesome. Deadly manor was definitely dull and hard to sit through.

I felt the opposite. Deadly Manor was one of those it's so bad it's good movies, that it was pretty entertaining from start to finish. Edge of the Axe, minus a few good kills and a cool visual on the killer, was a bit on the boring side. It wasn't horrible, but it didn't live up to expectations.

Default The Wind

This is a terrific little film for those who haven't seen it. It's an isolation film set in a deserted Greek village with just a few actors occupying the open space. The location and use of atmosphere and wind is awesome, the acting is above average, there is plenty of suspense and cat and mouse moments between the two leads. The pacing moves along nicely and Meg Foster is a huge bonus as the horror/mystery writer Sean Anderson. Have seen it countless times and this deserves having the best picture and sound quality to bring it all together. Highly recommended so enjoy!

I echo most these thoughts. It's for sure a fun little film, there's just little in the mystery area and not much in writing. Atmosphere is top notch tho, and the cinematography is good. The Arrow Blu-ray will probably look amazing. Nico Mastorakis is a fun Director.

Streaming on Amazon now. I just watched the director's Nightmare at Noon, and had fun with it, so The Wind is next!
