United Kingdom Nebraska (2013) -- UK Blu-ray - 14th/April/2014 -- Paramount Home Entertainment

UK Blu-ray Release Date: 14th April 2014
Studio: Paramount Home Entertainment

Nebraska Blu-ray PRE-ORDER

From the film's BVA listing:

Quote:
Academy Award-nominated road-trip drama directed by Alexander Payne and starring Bruce Dern and Will Forte.

Aging alcoholic Woody Grant (Dern) has received a letter in the mail informing him that he has won a million dollars in a sweepstake. The only catch is he must travel to the company's headquarters in Nebraska to collect the winnings. Determined to make the trip, and against his wife (June Squibb)'s wishes, Woody sets off on foot from his home in Montana. When his son David (Forte) learns of his father's intent, he decides to accompany him along the way and during a stop in their hometown the pair are reunited with old friends and family. But when Woody announces the news of his newly gained winnings, a number of outstanding debts are demanded of him...

The film was nominated for Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director (Payne), Best Original Screenplay (Bob Nelson), Best Actor (Dern) and Best Supporting Actress (Squibb).

FINALLY! So glad they confirmed it! Was wondering why there was only a DVD despite the Oscar nominations!

Will pre-order once it's a sensible price.

EDIT: that BVA listing is wrong though...the film's in B&W not colour!

Watched this tonight...thought it was great. Bruce Dern is excellent, it's often funny, and the B/W cinematography is beautiful (which the Blu-ray does justice to). I thought one of the funniest lines was when the mum said
[Show spoiler]"I ain't fiddlin' with no cow titties...I'm a city girl!".
Was well worth paying a bit extra to see it earlier than the UK release, though have to admit I prefer the UK artwork with it's B/W silhouette of Dern's head.

Yeah I love that poster, one of the best I saw last year...simple and beautiful, like the film. Can't wait to get it on blu-ray.

It would win a lot more Oscars if it came out another year, but this year's big films have been way above average, so it's going to be a tough one predicting the winners.
If June Squibbs gets one for Best Supporting Actress it is more than well deserved, she steals every scene she's in.

What are Paramount doing with this release? It's out on Monday and is still around £20 RRP...and at HMV on the system it says it is deleted (as well as the DVD edition). I hope they haven't completely bailed on the release at the last minute. It's definitely one of the best films of 2013 and I can't wait to watch it again. Will find out tomorrow as I think we get our Paramount delivery on a Thursday.

can you confirm there are no extras on the disc?

I know there were not many to begin with, but I'm pretty pissed at this.

For the above reasons and because of the crazy prices I have this rented from LF. Keep meaning to watch it but this heat is driving me crazy.

I LOVE this movie. My Mum passed away at Easter so I've been spending a lot of time with my Dad (taking him out for trips etc.) and it really struck a chord with me.

I've loved Bruce Dern since I saw him in Silent Running when I was a kid.

Absolute gem of a movie.
