Default Oppo BDP-83 issue with X-Men DOFP

Anyone else having any issues with X-Men Days of Future Past playing on their Oppo BDP-83? When the disc goes to load it says "Wrong disc!" and just opens up the tray. I tried it on my PS3 and it works fine but I'd like to view it on my home theater.

as it was brought up in the official oppo 83 thread, your kinda outta luck because the machine is too old and for the most part it isn't supported by oppo anymore.

most likely, it's a 20 century fux issue with their copy protection scheme or something to that effect. i'm sure other recent movie will still work on the 83 but some will not and that is just the nature of things.

best of luck to you people with an 83 having this issue.

This is the reply I got from Oppo.

"Sorry, we did not see in the previous E-Mail that you had explicitly talked about X-Men: Days of Future Past. We have heard other reports of this issue but have not received a copy of this film yet. Once we have, we will be able to determine the cause of the errors and, if possible, workarounds to get this title to work. Unfortunately, due to the age of the player, it is just not likely that we will be able to produce a new firmware if it ends up being firmware related.

The reason for this is that MediaTek, the decoder manufacturer, is no longer updating their SDK. We use their SDK to develop new firmware. Without additional SDK development to correct the issues with the incompatibility with the disc authoring on this title, we will not be able to release a new firmware to make the disc compatible with the player.

Best Regards,

Customer Service"

Hopefully they can get it resolved. They do have great customer service.

Problem also occurs with my Oppo BDP-80, however it plays fine on my Oppo BDP-93. This is the standard (non 3d) DOFP blu-ray retail release.

I thought that the BDP-80 was in the same "family" as the BDP-93. Looks like I'll email Oppo as well to report the problem on the 80.

Yes the BDP-80 was the economy adaption of the BDP-83. The same MTK decoder would be involved with same support issues. If you need to save some money, check with Oppo on refurbished players (full warranty) by calling them. People have gotten BDP-103 and 103D for example discounted.

That truly sucks, Just tried it same here on my 83.

Hoping Opp will help some happy customers for this one. I know they are not supporting the device anymore but seriously, get another player because new blurays might not be supported.

Hey SD

No Iam in Montreal but the Quebec distributor is at walking distance from my dealer in Montreal QC Canada. and they have a store, these guys sell amps at 25K and speakers at 65K, they are crazy

They have Oppo very happy about it

Any good reason to get the 105d over the 103d except for the DAC section?

I have a 103D and I am in heaven. I looked at the specs for the 105D before buying and determined that most if not all of the benefits were outside the range of human hearing.

Thanks, and regardless of that I have a great external dac which is why other than the DAC section I asked if there were any other benefits?

i use to have a squeezebox touch connected to a XDA-1 DAC outputed to a USP-1 pre-amp and it sounded great. i having owned an oppo 80, 83, 93 (still have it in my bedroom) decided to take a chance on the 105 because i missed out on the 95 which had another great DAC section.

i got the 105 and connected it up and right out of the box it was better than the the other setup i had. i removed all of the other components, connected the 105 directly to the amp and my network, also added a 1.5tb HD to it and i've never looked back. the improvement in sound to me and my non human hearing was profound. yes, i'm only talking for me and my experience. that oppo along with my Vintage Polk Audio SDA-2 speakers are the center pieces of my 2 channel setup. my soundstage is larger and has more density than before, more seperation and livelier sounds than the other setup gave me, and that's not a knock at the other setup, it's just that the 105 was, to me, better----period.

so impressed with it, i purchased a second oppo, a 105D to replace the 93 that was in my HT setup, i had to have that superior DAC for my movie audio, i have it connected via 8 RCA analog cables to my pre-amp for multichannel movies and multichannel audio. i also have the XLR out from the 105D connected to my pre-amp for 2 channel audio only. again, i was not disappointed in any way and i've been very happy with what i hear and see.

one thing that both the 103D & 105D will offer is the ability to become a pre-amp with the digital audio inputs and the hdmi input. my hdmi board in my actual onkyo 5507 pre-amp is failing on the audio side; the video side works perfectly. i purchased a 8 x 1 hdmi switcher from monoprice, connected all my hdmi sources to that switcher, connected the output of the switcher to the hdmi input of the 105D and now have better picture and audio on all my hdmi sources. for me, for my needs and uses, i made the right choice with the 105D & 105.

Thanks but I was asking other than the DAC section as for 2 channel playback I have my Bel Canto Dac which is extremely serious Dac so I do not need to pay extra for the 2 channel dac on the 105d. Now for movies that could be beneficial but how advance is bass management on the 105 if you are using it's 7.1 analog section?.

I would probably do the same if Bass management allows me to change the x-over by 10 hz increments on the 105d then I would send coax out to my dac for 2 channel playback.

Just looked at the manual and it has 10 hz Increment, it's starting to become an interesting thing to use the Analog section for multichannel apps.

I am sure it sound better than over HDMI and since the DAC is better on the 105, I am sure it does sound better than the 103.

Guys,
If OPPO can not update its firmware for the BDP-83 models (not that old player) maybe more recent generations will experience the same problems in the coming days? Not sure I still want to deal with OPPO again, although I find their players are very good.
