Default U2:3d

This Imax movie was absolutely amazing, turned me into a U2 fan actually. I cant keep making the 30 mile trek to my nearest Imax theater and paying the $15 per showing to enjoy this so I'm wondering if anyone has any word on this releasing on Blu.

'U2: Rattle & Hum' does not suck! It is an amazing documentary concert video.

It isn't high on the PQ scale, but the content and sound are amazing.

I ran RATTLE & HUM as a projectionist when it originallly ran in theatres. The film stock sucked hard core. The PQ then was also pretty crappy. However the one color reel in the movies was actually decent.

Back to the OP, my theatre is picking up U23D 2/15 for the digital house.

We may have to wait a while for anymore U2 Blu Ray discs. All the U2 DVD's I have are Paramount. Hopefully, Paramount see the light and return to supporting Blu Ray.

ok it dosent suck. but i said it sucked because, yes, the pq was horriable. i enjoy u2, and if they came out with a recent concert on blu that looked and sounds like the dave mathews. i would be all over that!

There are alot of U2 concert DVDs that are exceptional (Zoo TV, Vertigo, GO HOME: Live from Slane Castle...) that will undoubtedly further your U2 fandom. I strongly recommend these titles, although not on BD, will give you an indisputable appreciation of this amazing band. And if you're serious, just buy the albums and listen to the music. These guys are for real where it matters and I hope you take the time and effort and money that it takes to get to know this to be absolutely real and absolutely worth it! If that happens then I will be the first to welcome you to the U2 world with open arms. You are in lovely, lucky and select company! (I'm a huge, long-time fan if you couldn't tell;)

Rattle & Hum was the only U2 concert film Paramount released, because until U23D it was the only theatrical release. The rest are going out on Universal Music, except U23D, which would be on National Geographic.

Just for fun, here's a breakdown of what U2 have done that might or might not see the light of day on Blu-ray:

Live at Red Rocks: Under a Blood Red Sky- Sadly, no. It was shot with standard definition tube video cameras. The DVD that's out now is the best this will ever look.

Live Aid performance- No. Standard def video cameras.

Conspiracy of Hope Concert- No. Standard def video cameras.

Live in Paris (Joshua Tree Tour)- No. Standard def video cameras.

Rattle and Hum- Already out on Paramount. Originally shot on 35mm black & white, with one concert in color, and interviews shot on 16mm black & white. The poor PQ many refer to was the intention of Juanou, who wanted a gritty look, much like the album cover photography.

ZooTV: Live from Sydney- No. Shot on standard def video cameras in order to facilitate a live broadcast.

PopMart: Live from Mexico City- No. Standard def video.

Elevation Tour: Live from Boston- No. Standard def video. It was directed by a TV director who was more comfortable with a live switch setup than a film setup. Who knows why they didn't shoot in HD. It was available.

U2 Go Home: Live from Slane Castle- Yes. This concert was shot on HD cameras, although some insert shots seem to be from SD 16x9 cameras. This could possibly come out on Blu-ray.

Live in Chicago (Vertigo Tour, North American Leg)- Yes. This concert was also shot on HD cameras and was fully cut in HD. It has aired on HDNet in an abbreviated form (85 minutes) in HD. This could happen.

Live from Milan (Vertigo Tour, European Leg)- Yes. Also shot in HD.

U2 3D (Vertigo Tour, South American Leg)- Yes. Shot with RealD cameras, which are essentially HDCams paired up for 3D shooting. This is entirely feasible, though the band have stated they do not want this film released for video or television until 3D for the home is up to par. With the new technologies coming out over the next year, they may consider it. National Geographic, who banked the film, have released a multitude of Blu-rays of nature films & documentaries.

U2 360: Live from The Rose Bowl- Yes. It was shot in HD, and is currently in post production. No official word yet, though the band are referring to it as the next "concert DVD," we all know that the general public commonly refer to Blu-rays as DVDs as well. Hopefully, this will premiere day-and-date with the DVD on Blu-ray.

Good for them I think it's much smarter to wait on this title.
I would definitely pick it up with a home version of RealD attached.

I can't wait for U2:3D on Blu-ray, it should be next year with the Panasonic/Sony 3D TVs, and also Avatar's home release.

This really needs to come out.

In-home 3D is at the point where it's definitely accessible and the film can be shown how the band wanted it to be.
