Default Do many people buy Blu-ray's of DVD's they own?

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if many people buy Blu Ray's of dvd's they own? I've had my blu ray player since April and have only bought 3 blu ray's that I had in dvd's. I bought the Mel Brooks Collection and had Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein in dvd and bought the Shrek The Whole Story Collection while I had the Shrek dvd. With those 3 exceptions I have just been buying movies in Blu Ray that I don't have in dvd.

I got rid of nearly all my DVD's years before I ever started buying Blu-rays, so the few I still have are some of my all-time favorite films - thus I do upgrade them when the opportunity presents itself. At this point I have nearly none left beyond TV shows, which are about all I'll buy on DVD at this point. I do get rid of most DVDs after upgrading.

Do you still keep the dvd's after you bought the blu ray's?

Yes, people make their own combo packs.

Hi jscoggins,

That makes sense. I can also see keeping the dvd for the special features a blu ray may not have.

Do keep some of them like my Lord of the Rings boxsets cause I like the packaging so much, they look like books on the shelf. Thunderbolt and lightfoot kept the dvd of it cause its rare to ever see it anywhere and some others. Most tho I sale to a friend at work.

I've upgraded/replaced around 300 DVD's to Blu Ray, and have about 60 to go before all of them have been upgraded. My DVD count on the site is reflective of the DVD's I need to upgrade along with all the dvd's that came packed with Blu Ray's in combo packs. I have yet to encounter a Blu Ray that wasn't worth the price to upgrade from DVD... I just wait for deals, and upgrade when the price is right. I can't imagine not upgrading to Blu Ray as the increase in picture/sound is well worth the investment. For casual folks that don't frequent this site, DVD might be good enough... but if you care enough to join a site called Blu-ray.com then you owe it to yourself to upgrade.

Upgraded all of my DVDs to BD a long time ago. Now, I just replace a DVD as it is released on BD.

I used to be more discriminating with what I'd upgrade from DVD to Blu-ray. Now that I have a front projector again I'm upgrading pretty much all of the DVD's that I own which I'd consider watching again. Even a mediocre Blu-ray transfer will put the same title on DVD to complete shame when viewed on a 120" screen. :-P If I do decide to watch one of my DVD's these days it's always on my 58" plasma display instead.

I'm working on upgrading most of my old DVDs to Blu Ray, but not all of them. If it's a movie I love (especially if it has an awesome new special edition), I'll upgrade it without hesitation.

For instance, I'm far more willing to upgrade my DVD of 2001: A Space Odyssey instead of Alien vs Predator.

I don't see why people would upgrade a common generic tittle they have just for the sake of upgrading. I mean unless you really like the film (or there was something seriously wrong with the DVD), than it seems like a waste of money IMO.

I've upgraded a few tittles from DVD to Blu-Ray, and even from Blu-Ray to Blu-Ray, but generally speaking I'm pretty selective about it.

if it's worth watching, it's worth watching in Blu-ray

I have replaced a lot. More after I got a projector. DVDs that are watchable on a 32" TV are often complete crap on a 106" screen.

In the beginning, I would buy the best and leave the rest on DVD. For example, bought Planet of the Apes (1968) and thought the sequels were good enough on DVD. I was wrong. Had to buy the sequels on BD.

I guess, I have about 2 dozen DVDs that need to be replaced. The TV shows on DVD won't be replaced because we often watch those on the TV while eating.

The essentials yes.

As I grow so has my taste. And with that comes a decent amount of regret.

If I were to upgrade Blu to whatever comes next... I'm sure the list would get whittled down again. It's a process of refinery.
