United Kingdom The Selfish Giant (Clio Barnard)

The Selfish Giant Blu-ray REVIEW

TRAILER
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=12165

Very good film, but some North American viewers might have a very difficult time following and understanding the dialog without English subtitles.

On the other hand, the film is basically a masterclass in editing. Impressive work

Great review. I enjoyed The Arbor, but this completely passed me by. Added it to my wishlist, though I'll wait for the eventual £6-7 range.

A quick note:

We have been informed that the final market version of The Selfish Giant also contains a couple of deleted scenes, which were added at the director's request.

Hi Beadelf,

I actually don't know. The folks at Artificial Eye emailed us after the review went up. I don't have a market version of this release. (I updated the review after the email).

I hope you enjoy the film

Absolutely.

And turning that on its head, I was so glad AE saw fit to put subtitles on their release of Winter's Bone - they might as well have all been talking another language. Couldn't understand a bloody word they said.

Really? I didn't have any trouble understanding the accent.

That's the thing with accents, sometimes you can travel 100 miles in your own country and have trouble understanding the local dialect but at the same time have no problem with an accent from the other side of the world.

Your own dialect effects the way you hear others and if a certain accent from very far away is quite similar you will have a keener ear for it than some others in your country.

watched this film over weekend!!

it was fantastic! really moving, beautifully shot and the two leads were perfect!

I would have loved a commentary on this film.

fingers crossed they release 'Ratchatcher' & 'Kes' on blu in this country now!
