Default Technics is back!!!!!!

Panasonic is reviving the Technics brand and introducing several new components and speakers to the audio market in Europe later this year, and in 2015 globally.

No turntables or reel-to-reel recorders however, which is kinda disappointing.

Thumbs up

Nice. I'm not sure why they faded from glory in the first place. They made a lot of progress in the industry. Most people are familiar with their DJ gear but they were used in other applications as well. They were the industry standard for a while.

Good news John. My first cassette deck was a Technics.

I've never owned any Technics stuff myself, but my brother was a big fan. He had the SL-1200 (not sure of the specific model #) turntable and one of their 2CH power amps. I would love to see them bring back their R2R, but I doubt that'll ever happen. I think if successful they'll bring the SL-1200 back. I truly believe there is a lot of pent-up demand for that TT.

I don't have any Technics gear, but my turntable is a Fisher brand. I wonder if they are still around, and if they are/were a subisidiary of another corporation.

Funny I just made up a thread asking about an audiophile music server for a decent price and long and behold this announcement comes out Will be kind of poetic to add a Technics music server to a modern system.

Your turntable may have a Fisher label, but it was probably a re-branded Garrard or Dual turntable.

Fisher is no longer around and even if it was, it would just be the license of the brand name, like so many classic brands are today, like RCA or Acoustic Research. Companies buy those names so that there is some brand recognition, but they have absolutely nothing to do with the original companies.

I had a Fisher 500c receiver. Sounded spectacular. My ex wound up with it and she eventually gave it away without telling me first. I wish I still owned it.

I had a great solenoid operated 3-headed cassette deck from Technics. I think one of my early CD players was also from Technics. One of the nice things about that player was that you could easily program a track order and play a CD in any order that you liked.

LOL it's a $56,000 system. I should get one for each room.

Nice. I still use a pair of SB T200s as my mains. I always liked the smooth, silk dome tweeter.
I just realized I've been using the same speakers for over 10 years.

http://www.needledoctor.com/Online-S...get-Turntables

although I think that most of their turntables are belt driven. While belt driven turntables are a pain because they have low torque, they're better because the motor doesn't communicate any vibration to the platter.

You will also need to decide whether you want a "regular" turntable or one with USB output, so you can offload to a computer.
