Default Region-modded Oppo player from local (Australian) sellers ... ???

Has anyone purchased a region-modded Oppo player from an Australian seller before?

After 3 cheapies crapping out in as many years (current being a Soniq B100), it's time to buy something more robust, with region switching being a necessity.

I've had my eyes on an Oppo, and said to myself when I bought the Soniq that this was it. When this dies, I'm spending the cash and buying quality.

At the moment, I can only find a pro-modded (simplified region changes) Oppo 103AU on eBay - but it's sold by Trevor Lee's Audio. I only say "but" as a bit of Google-Fu brings up more than a few complaints about the company. Nothing specific to an Oppo player, but enough so to question buying from them or not, regarding warranties, etc.

Is there another option? Are the negative comments about ELA outdated?

Any help would be appreciated. I've had my cursor hovering over the buy-it-now button for the past few hours, but can't bring myself to click it.

Cheers,
Russ

Picked mine up from THE CABLE CONNECTION

http://www.thecableconnection.com.au/

(actually it's still it's box after a year -too many other region free players here)

Picked up my Pana years ago from Gatti Audio - still is region free and plays everything

I purchased both of mine from here:

http://www.opposhop.com.au/

aka Merlin Audio Design

They used to be the official local importer and distributor of Oppo products up until a few of years ago. They also used to handle all warranty repairs on Oppo's behalf. I'm not sure if they still repair the units they mod and sell, however if they do you can certainly trust them with this over any other reseller.

Ahh the old Panny mod. Picked up my chip for $NZ60 several years ago and did it myself. Hands were shaking like I had parkinsons with the soldering iron.. very nervous. One wrong weld and I could have bricked the machine.

Still going strong though. Only two titles so far that I can't load past the main menu due to updated BD code.

Gattiweb. That was the company I use to look at on eBay. Other than the out-of-my-price-range Darbee editions, it looks like the Oppo's they mod are what is being sold by Trevor Lee's.

That's a little more comforting.

I bought mine from Oppo Shop/Merlin Audio, superb customer service when I had an issue (region mod stopped working). They shipped me a replacement before I shipped back the defective player.

Wow! Any reason you just don't offload it, or are you a reseller?

I personally really bought mine for just one reason - the subtitle shift functionality. I love that. I have a Japanese and Aussie PS3 that I just alternate between for region free previously. I still prefer the PS3 for a lot of playback - particularly being able to ffwd 1.5 speed with audio - great for watching extras. I'm so used to that...

Far too much technology here - I bought an Epson 3d project at the same time and it's still in its box as well !!! There's an old Pana 720p project that I have here - but I've not turned that on for a while - just using the 60in plasma for 3d

There's two Allure (Clive Peeters) region free players, 2 Toshiba 3D players (region free), plus 1 2D Toshiba player (region free). Plus the modded Pana, plus the unboxed Oppo with a region free kit.
