I recently rewatched Cronenberg's entire filmography while reading along in Cronenberg on Cronenberg, and now I'm reading his novel, Consumed. The only ones I needed to watch on DVD were M Butterfly, eXistenZ, and Spider. Which is a pity, because those are three of his best films, imho.

The one I'm most frustrated with is eXistenZ. The lack of a quality HD version is upsetting to me. I'd really love to see a 4K remaster that ports over the extras from the Canadian DVD, which I heard were pretty good. But I just can't bring myself to buy any of the versions of eXistenZ that are available right now. It's either 23-year-old DVDs or Blu-Rays that look like rubbish.

M Butterfly and Spider would be lovely to have in HD, as well, although I don't re-watch them very often (I think my recent ones were only my second time for each). But eXistenZ is one I watch every few years with great enjoyment.

Just watched this on Prime Video. I'm glad I went in pretty much blind (outside of knowing it was a Cronenberg film starring Jeremy Irons), because wtfffffffffffff.

I don't know, (a similar film's spoiler is also within so don't click if you want to be safe!!!)

[Show spoiler]being gay, it was 100% obvious to me from the start that she was a he, and I had no knowledge beforehand to the plot. Just it's so easy for me to tell a guy from a girl, regardless of how much they want to hide it under makeup or lighting.

Same goes for "The Crying Game". The instant that character came on screen, I immediately knew it was a guy playing a woman. Making the rest of the film ridiculous as the lead doesn't figure it out right away.

That's why I sort of don't care much for either film. I will pick up "M. Butterfly" regardless to complete my Cronenberg collection, and it's not his worst film anyway, and I'll try to watch it again "pretending" I don't know. Won't do that with "The Crying Game", the Boy George song was great, but I didn't like anything else about it. Gender twists rarely work and TCG was beyond obvious, at least for me, and that's all that film had outside of the song. The gender twist was no twist, I couldn't believe Stephen Rea's character didn't see it, and so many viewers fell for it. Maybe it's their lack of gaydar. ;-P
