I enjoyed In Dreams. Glad it's getting a Blu-ray release - I can now retire the coaster. I mean, DVD

Lots of new announcements over the last year or so. Great to see Paramount finally opening the floodgates with their stuff.

I worked up the below Blu-ray cover art earlier this year for those interested. It combines elements from the US and UK retail DVD covers. Feel free to download a copy if you like.

Retail DVD covers...

Blu-ray version by yours truly...

Is Paramount going back to doing BD-Rs again? This is listed on Deep Discount as "Manufactured On Demand"

Check out info on 200 Cigarettes post.. I'm betting this is same as 200 and Intersection discs... MOD Pressed but has that generic blu-ray disc font on back cover disc and spine.

My copy just turned up - regular, non-purple disc surface, so pressed disc. I don't see anything generic about the disc art except for the Blu-ray graphic, which resembles the type of graphic you'd see on bootleg discs like Moonstalker.

Stoked that this made it to Blu-ray.

What I meant by the generic, was instead of getting the official Blu-Ray Logo on the Bottom Spine/ Back cover and Disc it has no logo just says blu-ray disc which is what BD-R's would get... yet these are pressed so that is what is odd about them, and all the rest of the Paramount MODs that were dropped today.

Thanks, I'm gonna grab it and find out the hard way if it's a decent step above the DVD. Glad it's a pressed disc. Anyone have thoughts on the PQ yet, or confirmation on a lossless audio track? I don't recall seeing any official technical details about the release from the studio.

I hear this type of thing all the time on these forums. What gives? What in the world are people watching their Blu-ray's on? The DVD will always be 720x480. (Well for NTSC releases anyway.) If the Blu-ray at 1920x1080 doesn't provide a significant improvement over the DVD than perhaps the display being used is too small. And if that's the case what does it matter what the person has to say online about the given Blu-ray anyway.

And of course other forum members are always so eager to jump on the "I'm sticking with the DVD" train not having seen the given Blu-ray themselves. It's all so much nonsense. I can only think of a couple titles out of the several thousand that I own where I'd rather watch the DVD and each case the Blu-ray has a completely botched transfer. That I can understand, but this apples (DVD) to oranges (Blu-ray) comparison people make here all the time is just silly.

And please know, DaylightsEnd. I'm not really replying to your comment here specifically. It just brought my thoughts here to the surface. As I said, people say this type of thing all the time on these forums. And that's okay of course. I don't get it. And that's okay too. I don't have to get it and I don't. I just gloss over such comments normally so. That being said, my copy of this did arrive today. Looking forwarding to giving this a watch. I can finally retire my DVD and the stream I authored to Blu-ray some time back. Keep the catalog releases coming, Paramount!

I just popped in the BD and then A/B'd it with the DVD. It was easy, the chapter breaks are at the same marks. I watched the first 10-20 seconds of each chapter on both discs.

It's clearly the original 1999 HD transfer. It's SUPER dated and matches the overall look of the DVD almost exactly.

That said, the BD offers a modest but noticeable improvement, due to the increased resolution and enormously improved compression of the video master.

I say only modest because this is a SUPER stylized film. I believe it had a bleach bypass effect used. The intended look of the movie is SUPER contrasty, with super crushed blacks and insanely saturated colors in some portions, mixed with washed-out colors in other portions.

I remember seeing a 35mm print, I was the one person in 1999 who loved this movie.

Does this HD master exactly reflect what the film was intended to look like? Certainly not, but it's the best we'll ever get of this forgotten financial disaster.

The representation of the original HD master here is worth a buy for any fans.

I'll try to do some comparison caps later.
