i'm not sure if this is the thread to ask this in, but bay intially said no to TF2 after Paramount went exclusive. He then got back on the project. Could this be, because the earliest we would see TFormers2 out is early 09, which is past the contract experation date. what i'm trying to say is did something like this go down.

Bay: You went HD DVD exclusive, I'm not doing TF2
Parmount: Relax we signed a 150 million dollar contract through the end of 08, TF2 won't be out til past that.
Bay: So after that you will start endorsing Blu-ray again?
Paramount: Yeah, we just did it for the money, we really like blu-ray though.
Bay: So if I do TF2, it will come out on blu-ray day-and-date with the dvd.
Paramount: Yep
Bay: Alright, I'm back on board.

it would be great if it went down like that....

He claims to not care about the format war, and indeed i am sure he does not mind that his film are on HD DVD, but he is obviously upset that it is not on Blu-ray! I agree. I could care less if every film was on HD DVD, just as long as they are also on Blu-ray.
But since this will not happen, and is not good for the industry anyways, we need to end the war.
I am afraid the need for the war to end is approaching faster than I thought. It sounds to me like this war can not continue much longer now that people are beginning to acknowledge HDTV as standard technology. I think 2008 will be the year of HD since the prices of TVs and players and media are all down and the content is there. We need to get this over with sooner rather than later or there will be no end.

Probably more likely that it went down like this imho...

M. Bay: You went HD DVD exclusive, I'm not doing TF2
Paramount Rep: Michael, this is the contract you signed when you agreed to shoot TF. Read the line in small prints, right down .. where is it ... ah yes, here!
M. Bay: Err (hard to read)... "Bla Bla ... will not in any way harm or damage the promotion of said motion picture by any comments that might come as in opposition or countrary to the studio ..." .. uh .. wait .. so I can't say how I feel about this?
Paramount Rep: Oh, but you can! This is a country with free speech after all. Let me just point out this other line right here.
M. Bay: ".. sued for damages in excess of __ millions for breach of contract...", I see ...
Paramount Rep: Also, we thought you would really have liked to shoot TF2...
M. Bay: Of course I would! I was talking with Steven two days aggo and ...
Paramount Rep: Well, let's make it easy for everyone then. Here, we wrote a few words for you (hands out paper with pedalling back comments), no need to thank us really. The only thing you have to do is have those up on your website .. say ... by 10am tomorrow. Deal? (points ominously to the "sued" part" of the contract)
M. Bay: I guess so. Thank you for all your "help". I'll make sure I know where I stand from now on (looks at dates on the contract that include the promotion period for TF release).
Paramount Rep: That is our Pleasure Michael. We always look after our own (ominous music in the background).

Rep leaves.

M. Bay sits down at his computer, and starts writing a pro-Blu Ray thread, to then click on the "Save as Draft" button. Subject: "To be posted on TF DVD release week, or said during interview same week".

Hd dvd fanatics all over his site flaming him for speaking his mind on his own freakin' website.
I'm starting to believe that some of those jokers would prefer hd dvd over the freedom of speech.

Apparently there are others in film who feel the same way he does.

Yes! and the thing is, this man really knows what he is talking about! hes not a fanboy or a wannabe! This guy knows all about movies/film and their quality! so of course this man can tell wich format suits better for his films!

unlike some HD DVD fanboys who just keep talking bullshit without any knowlegde! Thats hilarious , well what else can i expect from early HD DVD adopters ?

Isn't it great how there are several directors known to prefer Blu-ray, and a whopping none who prefer HD DVD? I love it.

Two thumbs up for Mr. Bay!

I hope when he says that his opinion reflects those of many deep in the industry that this will have an effect on the studios. There are directors we don't even know support Blu, and maybe big-time producers, and who knows what else. I just want them to get these damn studios to go Blu if they can't make up their mind!
