Default CARS - SD vs. Blu?

I've already picked up WALL-E, which I have yet to view (on BD). I own a copy of Cars on SD DVD and wondered if there was enough of a difference in PQ to justify the purchase of the BD version? Best Buy has it for $19.99, so I'm somewhat tempted.

Yes. Definitely a difference. Cars is one of the better looking Blu-rays.

Cars is one of the best looking Blu-rays available right now, so I'd say it's worth it. Also depends on how well you like the movie.

being a blu fanboy I cannot believe I am saying this but...cars will look pretty good upconverted. Pixar movies are all digital so look pretty good upconverted. Buuuuuuuut, for twenty dollars I would get the bluray!

It also depends on your TV and setup as well. I watched Wall E yesterday and have to admit it is one of the best PQ blu rays I have seen I was blown away by the colors in that movie as well as the SMOOTH motion I got from the plasma, I actually watched it on the 58" version of my TV even more room for fun!

If you like the movie and you got the TV and setup for it, get cars on BD. It's one of the best BD released so far in my opinion.

It's not even close. I have both because I need the SD version for the car and I personally tried both on purpose and let me tell you ...not even close must be Blu-ray. Hope that helps.

P.S. Did I say not even close ? Cause I remember it not being even close..no seriously..it's not even...

I sold back my DVD version before I ever compared them.

I did used to use the DVD to show off the theater now I often pull out the Blu Ray version to demo the theater.

It was a fantastic DVD... it's a amazing Blu Ray.

unless you are going to sit through it again several times, I wouldn't double dip. but thats my personal double dipping rule. cars BD is a definitely upgrade from SD and I did double dip on this one.

I have a story that might help you...
I bought Cars bluray because of all the great reviews on how great of a bluray it is. I never saw the movies in the theatre before nor in SD regular DVD. Shortly after, I started watching my little nephew at my place everyday and he ABSOLUTELY LOVES Cars! we would watch it everyday. I admit it looked good but because I haven't seen any other quality version of it, it looked regular/natural to me.
After a month of watching it constantly and getting used to it's quality, me and my girlfriend went to Circuit City one day and they were playing Cars on a plasma but only from a DVD. It REALLY looked just plain fuzzy and pixelated in comparison. Almost the difference between poo and chocolate. Trust me, after CONSTANTLY watching the bluray version EVERY DAY (damn nephew), I have enough of the experience...
Hope this helps...

Yeah...that's the thing. The SD version "upconverted" looks pretty damn good!

*Bzzz*

While "pretty good" is subjective, you can easily see stairstepping/pixellation on the hoods of all the cars where their eyes are. It looks VASTLY better in my estimation, and is easily worth it.

The opening alone should prove that to you when you can see each and every car in the stadium audience.

...and then there's the sound!

I collect classic animation and have as much of the Disney/Pixar, Warner Bros., etc. on SD and have slowly started collecting on BD (Sleeping Beauty, WALL-E, Paprika (Anime) ).

I have every Pixar release except Ratatouille (on either SD or BD), and Cars was definitely a fave!

In that case, do you even have to ask?

It's an amazing title that looks perfect in blu and will definitely breathe new life into the title for you. My daughter and I watch it once every few months and I definitely enjoy it more on blu.
