The Amazon pre-order and listing is there for Aug. 19. Seems to be priced the same as a day and date but it is a 2-disc special edition.

Supplemental features have been packed onto two discs and include The Making of An Epic: a never before-seen 50 minute featurette; a new interview with Director Simon Wincer; a Lonesome Dove Montage featuring an original score by Basil Poledouris; the original interviews on the set with author Larry McMurtry and the whole cast; and a photo gallery of Lonesome Dove original sketches, casting notes, and other materials.

This would be the first Blu-ray from Genius Products which is great news!!

It still looks great and represents the min-series how it was intended to be seen.

I wish I could recommend the bluray with its superior sharpness and texture, but the aspect ratio is close enough for dental work with the top and bottom cut off so that the action is cut off, too.

Found this review on amazon which does have 2 screenshots for comparison...though they look like from a phone.

Having just finished a bio of John Wayne I thought this may interest people who like this film. McMurtry wrote a screenplay back in the early 70's called The Streets of Laredo that was supposed to unite all of John Ford's leading men-Wayne, James Stewart and Henry Fonda. Wayne was the key but eventually he passed on the project because it was a western about the death of the West which was more or less synonymous with Wayne and he didn't like the implications. The script hung around Warners for a number of years but once Wayne passed it stayed passed and McMurtry finally let the project go, but later re-thought it, refocused some of the characters and the plot and wrote the novel Lonesome Dove. When the miniseries was made years later, Robert Duvall played the part that had been written for Wayne and Tommy Lee Jones played the role designed for James Stewart.

Yes. Lousy lossy audio and no subtitles. Release of 2019 so far

Just read Marty’s review of the first Mill Creek disc and he put in this little bit at the end:

There is also a Mill Creek SteelBook, which is a good bit different beyond packaging.

Edit: These are the differences.
SteelBook has the same video as the Weinstein disc, though it’s encoded in MPEG-4 instead of VC-1. Soundtrack is Dolby Digital 5.1, though there are lower bitrates than the Dolby Digital 5.1 on the Weinstein disc. It is an upgrade from the Dolby Digital 2.0 presented on the earlier Mill Creek disc. Extras from all previous versions are included on the SteelBook release. The earlier Mill Creek disc only had one extra. All Blu-ray versions are framed at 1.78:1.

The original blu looks better, too. This new one has the brightness cranked too high. Plus the 5.1 is preferable.
