Tiger Woods was the only sports game that I would buy and play more than a few hours.

I'll wait to see what the graphics look like and how the reviews are, but I'm in day 1 at the moment.

I'm in for this one day 1 as well. Man June is shaping up to be a nice month for games, Batman: Arkham Knight, Lego Jurassic World and now Rory McIlroy PGA Tour all set for release in June. Those are 3 day 1 buys for me.

Thanks for the info and trailer. I'm pretty sure I'll pick it up. Supposedly, no load times between holes so I hope that is true. At the moment, I can't remember where I read that though. Actually, just did. It was a short article at ESPN.

Electronic Arts Inc. announced Monday that McIlroy will be the new face of its golf series. "Rory McIlroy PGA Tour" will be released in June and will be the first EA Sports series to use the new Frostbite technology that provides sharper pictures and eliminates load times between holes.

I think this is a PS4 and XB1 game only. No PS3 or 360 versions which I think is good. That way they can concentrate on getting more power out of these new consoles.

Also Patel does indicate the game will get free content updates after release as well. What that means is vague, but one would seem to think it would almost certainly mean courses and golfers being possible add-ons after the fact. Given the relatively slim amount of content available on the disk, and the pushback from fans following that reveal, this is a good bit of news.

There's also not a confirmation of what schedule, if any, any future Rory games will be released on. There has been some speculation, although currently unfounded, that Rory could eventually morph into a more subscription-based format where official golfers and courses are added and subtracted all of the time.

If you recall, EA Sports UFC released with a limited number of licensed fighters, but quickly ramped that number up with updates. It's likely that PGA Tour could be following a similar model of content releases. It's also possible that Rory will be an every other year release -- but we haven't heard official confirmation of that yet.

I'm an avid golfer and a purchaser of every Tiger Woods game since I can't remember when. However, I'm skipping this or waiting for a great sale. I lost interest when they started making you buy courses instead of unlocking them with XP.

That price is expensive for that small course list.

I'm presuming that the fact this is being released on the same day as the start of the UK Open is no coincidence.

I'm from St Andrews so will be curious to see if EA have any promo for this at the tournament tented village. Will take a look when I go down on Tuesday.

I suspect EAs publicity people won't be happy if McIlroy pulls out due to his footballing injury!

The Just Dance games can be played with Move controllers. Possibly some others. Maybe that Rabbids game since it is a motion controlled game from UbiSoft like JD.

Only golfers get screwed so much. If EA released a football game with half the Premier League teams and stadiums or you only had 10 tracks in Formula 1, there'd be an uproar. The PGA tour goes to nearly 50 venues yet we don't get much more than a handful of courses or players. They even give you a course one year and take it away the next game instead of increasing the amount ... EA could make a decent golf game, with realistic animation, full tour schedules and a good rooster of major championship courses (so you can play a career mode), but they choose not to do so. The PGA games peaked on the PS2, since then they've just been recycling ideas, instead of building what could be a fantastic series.

I could see complaining about DLC like five years ago but it's such a common thing now I can't see the argument. I guess if your short funds and you don't like playing video game golf a lot then yeah complain I guess but for me I don't mind ...give me courses however you can get them to me. They are trying something new this year with updates and some free content (+DLC I think) I guess so we'll see how that pans out.

It's the first PGA on the next gen (ala NHL) so not expecting the best effort out of the gate but I think it will improve. Remember PGA and NHL don't sell near as many copies as Madden so to expect the same content is rather silly I think. This isn't the cash cow spending days of EA anymore, the budgets for the developers are much tighter because of the lower profit expectations.
