Default This Island Earth needs a blu ray release

Being that I love many classic 50s science fiction films and that Shout Factory has a new deal with Universal, I thought now would be the time to bring this title up. Hopefully the good people at SF are reading this. Id love to have this in HD widescreen (and full screen for those who prefer seeing it that way)

I wants me some Metaluna Mutant in HD !

Definitely! It's an absolute classic. Being born in the mid-70s and watching all sorts of cool creature feature type programs in the early 80s, I have a strong affinity for 50s/60s sci-fi. This Island Earth is one of my most wanted. I'd like to see Scream Factory release the trippy Angry Red Planet as well.

A steelbook of this would be awesome! It would go nicely with my Forbidden Planet and Day The Earth Stood Still.

This Island Earth needs a GOOD Blu-ray release. Fingers crossed that Universal have been working on it as part of a fifties sci-fi set.

A friend of mine had a BR of it that I borrowed this weekend, that I am almost sure is a Boot. It sorta looked Foreign but when I Googled it, I couldn't find one with the same Cover and Stats.

I hadn't seen it in a long while (I have a LD of it but my LD Player is Dead right now) and I was sorta amazed at how Solid the Story was. Lots of Science stuff that was quite a bit off, but I'll bet a lot of it was considered "Actual Science" in 1955.

It looked pretty decent in High-Def. Somewhere in these Forums is a discussion about the Different Imports and I think the General consensus is that the "Official" Imports are pretty poor. Very Sad indeed for such a Great Movie.

Wow, this movie was amazing! I had only seen a couple of the Earth scenes here and there in the past. Great visuals, interesting storyline, solid performances. Weakest part is probably the mutants, which were kind of unnecessary anyhow. This is probably my favorite sci-fi film of the fifties now. Heck, it’s a great sci-fi film in general

As much as I love the MST3K riffing of it, it's still a great little flick on its own. One of my favorite '50s sci-fi classics. I would definitely get it on Blu-ray.

I dig the Rockabilly Aliens and I think the Mutants look great! One of my very fave Sci-Fi Alien Designs!

It is astonishing to me this movie has no official blu-ray release. I mean, the Metaluna Mutant may have been popularized in modern pop-culture by MST3K, but it was one of the most recognizable cinema creatures long before that!

What are you doing Universal?

I think there is a strong possibility that we'll be seeing this, as well as other 1950's Universal science fiction films, on Blu-ray soon. Now that Universal has wrapped up releasing all of its classic monster movies on Blu-ray, the next logical step is to begin releasing everything else.

And when This Island Earth does finally get released, I expect it to include its original three-track Perspecta soundtrack. The 3-D Film Archive's Bob Furmanek said the soundtrack still exists, and sounds great.

Is this a remastered release, or just a re-release?

Any extras etc on it, or is it a bare bones, movie only release?

Thanks...

If you look at the back of the Australian disc box on here, it has several black and white pictures from the film. It also states that the film is in black and white! That has to be be a mistake - I hope.

It looks bare bones. Doesn't even include subtitles. It is also in Region B.

Barebones. Not even a menu or subtitles! PQ is very poor also.

Default This Island Earth (Blu-ray)

Thanks Deciazulado. I just pre-ordered mine from Amazon a few minutes ago for a June delivery. I hope Shout Factory does it justice as far as image quality, color and sound go. The fact that they say it will be in the 185:1 aspect ratio is a good sign and step in the right direction.
