Default Caveman (1981)

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Caveman-Blu-ray/120989/

The 1981 comedy farce about 2 tribes of Cavemen, fighting for dominance and one sexy cave-lady is finally being released onto bluray on February 17 by Olive Films.

This hysterical film features an all-star cast: Ringo Starr, Dennis Quaid, Shelly Long, Jack Gilford, Barbara Bach and some of the funniest prehistoric dinosaurs from the Jurassic stone age.

This film delivers the laughs as you watch them discover fire, the wheel, weaponry, roast chicken and Rock Music.

The film might look slightly dated, but the laughs are not.

On a positive note, this movie has less than 5 spoken words total. It's just grunts and sounds. This movie is told through facial expressions, gesturing and body language, which makes it even more entertaining to watch, not listen to.

So, subtitles are almost a waste on a film like this, except for background noises.

I've seen bits and pieces of this on TV... looks like good, silly fun. All I remember was the scene in the trailier with the giant fried egg.

There is no comparison. Caveman is a comedy. It's a spoof of films like One Million B.C.

Actually, the movie has a ton of verbal gags cause the cavemen actually have vocabulary that's clearly defined throughout the movie and used as jokes. It definitely would need subtitles (I don't know if the DVD has them?) Roger Ebert's old review had the entire glossary that they handed out at the theater included in it. There is certainly plenty of grunting but it's got the most intentionally understandable dialogue of any of these sorts of movies (When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth, One Million Years BC, Quest for Fire, etc).

It's a spoof of One Million Years BC, which is a bizarre thing for it to be, but I always loved it as a kid and still enjoy it greatly cause of nostalgia. It is comparable in that it's got tons of riffs on the same material and has some really solid stop-motion dinosaurs, some of which have some great gags, especially the tyrannosaurus. If you're just there for stop-motion dinosaurs it's definitely worth watching, and if you're there for cavebabes, Barbara Bach isn't quite Raquel Welch level, but she's still rather fetching.

It certainly has some jokes that would NEVER fly now, though, like an extended sequence in which the hero knocks out his love interest with drugs and then attempts to have sex with her as she's unconscious next to her husband, and is foiled at every turn. I would suggest not watching it with any women around!!
